From the list of OST's I dug up recently, the one for Transistor stands out. Here's "We All Become" from Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett:

With 1 , I can make an inverter, a switch, or a not-very-good amplifier.

With 2 transistors, I can make a differential amplifier, a cascode, or a latch.

With 3 transistors, I can make a fairly good (Wilson) current mirror, or a Lorenz chaotic system.

20,000 transistors made a that navigated spacecraft to the Moon and back.

But 10,000,000,000 transistors make a computer that's brought to its knees if it tries to interpret the Javascript used to load one on a web page.

Das ist ein verdammt saurer Apfel in den ich da beisse, denn Substack hat mir letztes Jahr fast 900 Abos gebracht.

Mund abwischen, hier kann es keine andere Entscheidung geben! Plus Ghost will ja wohl auch implementieren.

Muss ich halt das haeufiger zuspammen 😇

I have a DC motor and a sensor. I want to have the DC motor stop on a high signal from the sensor. Easy with a microcontroller, but I am wondering if I can do it without one. I tried with some NPN transistors (2N3904), but I could not figure it out.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

I've always liked to listen to stations directly through the site. I've now discovered that it also includes a feature, which makes discovering new stations even easier and more fun... especially when travelling! 🌍

I've started playing #ChainedEchoes instead, and I'm having a really fun time!

@miona @retrohistories For me that has to be either #Bastion or #Transistor by #supergiantgames (makers of #Hades). The former has a fantastic soundtrack, and the latter actually has a button you can press and hold to let your character, Red, hum to the soundtrack. #DarrenKorb's OSTs are very worth your while.

Testing the switching characteristics of cheapo PC817 optocouplers from Ebay.
555 timer astable is generating a 37kHz square wave test input.
Rise/fall time is way out of spec for use in . But the recommended component, 6N138, is much more expensive.

Instead have the drive the base of an NPN and by adding appropriate resistors, I get much improved switching speeds. Is this good enough for a MIDI input circuit?

Oscilloscope shows the 555 timer output as a yellow square wave, and the optocoupler collector-emitter voltage as a blue waveform that is anything but square. At 37kHz the output signal is clearly not usable
The oscilloscope is now hooked up the the collector of the NPN transistor whose base is driven by the 2nd optocoupler. The blue waveform is a near perfect square wave, with rise/fall times well within 2us spec for a MIDI application.
