BBC News: Selfies, dogs and drinking: What can't you do in a polling station?

Under new legislation, if you don't take at least one dog, your vote doesn't count.

Tory staff running network of anti-Ulez Facebook groups riddled with racism and abuse | Conservatives | The Guardian

This is obscene. The racist abuse that follows Sadiq Khan around the internet is vile, and it turns out that some of that has been whipped up by the goddamn Tories.

Thames Water boss says bills need to rise by 40%

Despite Thames Water's weird justification, sources close to Ofwat (water regulation body) will do its best to refuse raising bills for end customers.

Also worth noting that Thames Water is a public company with shareholders: https://www.londonstockexchange.com/stock/94NA/thames-water-utilities-finance-plc/company-page and they are HEMORRHAGING money!!

Secret papers reveal Post Office knew its court defence was false

Captain Obvious to the rescue. The whole point of litigation was to convince the postmasters that they were the issue, and not the software.

The real important question is what repercussions will the Post Office face for tis massive miscarriage of justice just to save their image?

“Britain’s offers the worst value for money of any advanced economy, combining high prices with old, cramped, poorly insulated buildings and long commutes…” 🏚️😪

I'm too familiar with our awful housing, but was surprised to learn that we have less floorspace than not only other Western European nations, but also Japan and central NYC 🤯

First they came for the Tesco then they came for the Sainsburys.
Soon they will come for the Asda, the Morrisons and the Ocado.I can take that. But if they come for my local dial-a-munchie box I will take to the streets (though I probably won't).

UK quits treaty that lets fossil fuel firms sue governments over climate policies

The treaty would've allowed fossil fuel investors to sue the states for lost profit expectations.

... I've read the explanation why this was set up, but yeah it still feels entirely lost on me.

Oh well. Good riddance, silly outdated treaty.

🧵 1/2: No outlet is able to explain what happened in today over the vote. Let me explain: used to be a place for representatives of the people to debate & vote legislation that benefit citizens & represent their aspirations. Yes have always existed but overall, believed in their mission & in the importance of parliamentary rule. Today however, parliament is only a farcical theatre to boost while obfuscating real policy

Even if you don’t plan to be at odds with the law,

  1. the recent criminalization of #protest means you just might be anyway

  2. normalizing #secure communication helps to protect others

  3. it’s easy - and it’s not illegal (yet)
