Do any of my fellow witches have any good spells for protecting a child?
(Don’t worry, my own kids are very well protected. I’m just doing part of a quilt for a new baby in the family and thought it would be nice to add some oomph to it.) #witchcraft
A hand of glory is a supposed artifact of European sorcery, often used to assist in robberies. It's the dried and pickled hand of a hanged criminal that holds a candle made from that criminal's fat. The candlelight temporarily paralyzes everyone save the person wielding the hand. #FolkloreSunday
Timothy Knab's #book "Dialogue of Earth and Sky" on #indigenous beliefs of San Martín Zinacapan has completely upended everything I thought I knew about #aztec#witchcraft and #history
I didnt have a good understanding of the dream #magic and souls, but this blew me away.
Here is an excerpt. There is just so much material, stories, and folklore to go through and I am only through 1 of his #books
Meditation has been the foundation of practice for me. I had a solid meditation practice for about a decade before I re-engaged in magical work and it has been a deep resource.
At the end of it, I know that the projects I do take on – be they jars of herbs or small rituals, necklaces made of certain stones or clothes woven just so – are few and far between. If I light a candle and say a few words, they are more likely to be a prayer than an incantation. Surely that’s not Witchcraft.
When I started learning witchcraft, the majority taught that a spell should not be performed on someone without their consent, even benefic ones like healing or protection. I'm wondering how much/if this opinion has changed.
Would you do a spell (or pray) on someone without their consent?
I'm of the "hexes and curses are a-okay!" camp "threefold law, I don't know her!" so that's that out the way.
I also feel like... magic isn't stupid. And the root of all of my magical workings is intent. A spell that I might cast for someone with beneficial intent isn't gonna backfire in some kooky way.
I may ask the person, but for me that's actually part of the spell. Putting that energy out there so they know that someone is wishing them well.

In this week's Pagan Community Notes: New Orleans inaugurate a National Vodou Day, a defense of Paganism shared by interfaith minister, events, and more, including our Tarot of the Week.
I'm new to witchcraft, very slowly learning as it's hard for me to read, and I'm especially new to runes. Been wanting to combine a protection & healing rune together to help with my health, but can't figure out how to combine them so it feels right. Any thoughts? #Witchcraft#Wiccan#Pagan#Runes#GreenWitch
Weekend Editor Eric O. Scott sits down for a wide-ranging interview with Danica Boyce, host of the Fair Folk Podcast. In the first half of the conversation, Boyce discusses seasonal folklore, how Indigenous education influenced her Paganism, and a new vision for how to incorporate traditional knowledge into modern Paganism.
According to 1 source via book I have as well as a couple of others online that I can't find anymore, string made from cattail is a pretty powerful protection amulet of sorts (& if dyed red, it's even more protective). This is w/in the context of Serbian/Balkan(?) folk magick.
While I've found a video or 2 showing how to get the parts from the cattail that's used to make the string, I don't know the full process such as drying it & such. The video I saw never went into that much detail & I can't find any other sources to explain it.
Anybody who's made string from cattails able to explain the whole process to me?
The New Year is a time to reflect on joy, hope, and tradition ~ January is a time for blessings, for joy, and for considering and perhaps resetting our ethical stances.
In this week’s Pagan Community Notes, scholars at Harvard Divinity School post an open letter regarding Rabbi Wolpe’s comment and a possible dialogue, Cornellian elevation, events, and more news. Plus our tarot of the week!
“ This workshop is an introduction to and exploration of decolonising your magical practice. Respecting the spirit of this ancient land; acknowledging the Traditional Owners and their kinship to the land, honouring Ancestors and Spirits of Place. Deep listening, respectfully connecting to country and being in active solidarity with First Nations communities and causes. […] Raphael Lavallee is a Ngarigo-Buhlung from the Ngarigo and Yuin nations. Ngarigo is their Grandmothers country, and Yuin is their Grandfathers country. They are a Reclaiming Witch a WildWood Witch, a Priestess, artist, ritualist, a ceremony and law/lore keeper, meditation teacher, expressive and cultural arts therapist, experienced workshop facilitator and fat activist.”
It is widely understood that Christian proselytism is one of the most damaging aspects of the colonisation of so-called Australia. However, many aren’t aware that even less mainstream spiritualities inherit similar attitudes which invalidate or exploit First Nation peoples and cultures. This workshop is an excellent way of showing solidarity to Indigenous grief surrounding the events of 26th January, 1788 (Invasion Day or so-called “Australia Day”). :firstnations:
I have personally attended this workshop, and found it extremely insightful. Raph helped answer questions I had on how to ethically connect with nature on a spiritual level as a non-Indigenous inhabitant of so-called Australia, and enhanced my understanding of Indigenous wisdom, culture and truth-telling. It is my strong belief that we should support local/indie initiatives, especially those owned/run by Indigenous people. 💚
