This reminded me of my own 1970s childhood, & a progressive parent who (even then) chose clothing for me. But what did I want to wear instead; princess dresses of course, which my grandmother bought me much to the consternation of my mum! I loved that dress, but I also loved that it essentially taught me I can wear whatever I want.
