Here is my continued discomfort with the Apple Vision Pro and how its announcement/roll-out has gone: In every single way, this is a dev kit, which I think is completely valid and is the proper positioning for a device like this at this stage. But Apple, while somewhat positioning it like a dev kit in terms of price/release/how it can be tried out, continues to market this as a direct to consumer device. You cannot be both, and I cannot stress this enough. You cannot be both.

My insurance rates shot up, I'm paying almost double for home and auto. Bundling discounts become meaningless when rate increases on renewals overtake the discount entirely. Big whoop I save 12% when I'm paying 70% higher rates. But at least they didn't cancel.

Specific to my situation, I drive a Hyundai that has been affected by the "Kia Boyz" TikTok challenge ("Steal a cheap sedan in 30 seconds, or you're a simp" or something.) I did the recall, invested in anti-theft, none of that matters to my insurer, as they stopped writing new policies for Hyundai's or Kia's solely from the theft losses.

If I leave them, my car is likely not to be insured for the rest of its remaining life. (2016 model, realistically, it's got ~5 years left on it.)

@RickiTarr Kyriarchy. Especially now: Blue Lives Matter, Trans Hate, Anti-Abortion, Anti-Vax (especially coming from the elite and billionaire class), TESCREAL.

Grab some yarn and tacks and become Charlie Day? Of course not. Calling it out as one big conspiracy is easily disproven where they compete against each other for mindshare. Organized hate isn't going to open-handedly join forces: the end goal is one of them gets to "win" and tell the other what to do, so why bother with allegiance?

But collaboration is always possible, even indirectly. Where there is overlap and one or more groups can exert power, they can and will. And from the point of view of the oppressed, it is incredibly chilling. Working together means realizing their goals, so why not?

Amazing kid. Did what only a Bot-Assisted run could do in the past. Most Tetris aficionados would stop trying on reaching 290 lines to continue to go further. Well, he kept going with an accuracy that would make a Raspberry Pi blush.

In 40 minutes, he closed 1,511 lines after the NES game cartridge stopped recording his effective level (screen said Level 18, but every other level It becomes letters, he reached Level 157) and score (999999, actual score 6,850,560).

The game didn’t show a Game Over or any established ending, in A-Type play Tetris continues until you fill the screen from missed lines. It instead crashed as he exceeded the cartridge and console’s memory and processing capability (what’s known as a Kill Screen, after the arcade age’s tendency for a game cabinet to lock up when a champion player exceeds the program’s limits in Record Breaking play.)

Do you think there are any truly credible sources of news and information?

I feel like anymore when I read something, I need to do further research, and find second or third sources for verification. So many headlines are click bait half truths, hyperbole, or just full on lies and don't get me started
on YouTube "News".

@RickiTarr National? Getting harder and harder. Disinfo is free with facts behind a paywall. Nobody seems to care if the public has accurate information anymore. Radio and TV has given completely over to advocacy media (liberals watch X, conservatives watch Y.)

Local? Yes. Just not newspapers, they're all bought off and syndicated to lead to the same problem. There's local News agencies that are springing up in the dearth newspapers left behind that are doing the work.

My hometown is an example: https://www.vvng.com/ No paywall. Ads suck, yes. But unlike local paper Victorville Daily Press, they actually hire reporters who work a beat. Daily Press is a PR News Release mill anymore.
