As expected, "Fingers have pointed at Israel after a helicopter carrying Ebrahim Raisi and other top Iranian aides crashed into a mountainside on Sunday."
Just speculations at the moment. Israel denies any involvement and the cause of crash has yet to be determined.

@NotImpressed @palestine That is pro forma for them. To my knowledge they haven't acknowledged assassinating General Mohammad Reza Zahedi with a airstrike in Syria last month either, but nobody doubts that they did it. That Israel has taken highly provocative action in assassinating Iranian high officials in the recent past doesn't exactly add credibility to their claims when more high officials die in questionable circumstances.

If the US saw lack of ICC jurisdiction as a valid defense that exempts Israel from ICC prosecution, then US would not have welcomed ICC arrest warrants for Putin—who also rejects ICC jurisdiction. But instead the US happily welcomed ICC warrants against Putin, and stands by those warrants to this day.

International rules based order mandates consistency in law and the application of law—for opponents & allies alike. That's how justice is supposed to work.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid

Q:Could you give us your reaction to the International Criminal Court issuing an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin?

Biden: Well, I think it’s justified. But the question is, it’s not recognized internationally by us either. But I think it makes a very strong point.

Q:Should Putin be tried for war crimes? (Inaudible.)

Biden: He’s clearly committed war crimes.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid Biden also ordered the Pentagon to share its intelligence on possible Russian war crimes with the ICC. The Pentagon normally objects to sharing intelligence with 3rd parties, but Biden publicly overruled them. It is almost like Biden thinks the ICC is a legitimate institution for the prosecution of war crimes.

He just doesn't like it when the "Rules based order" he so claims to cherish comes down in favor of something contrary to his administration's desires.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid He wants an international rules based order where the US is the only one setting the rules. That isn't a rules based order where all parties are equal before it, it is the appearance of law, but with unequal application. It is a tool of US hegemony or nothing.

You see the same thing at the UN, with the major security council players repeatedly vetoing widely desired attempts to establish some sort of international law with actual teeth.

@AlexKourvo This article lost me at the very first sentence: The Covid pandemic is over. No, it isn't. It isn't endemic by any definition of that word. It is still fundamentally being driven by unpredictable evolutionary leaps which lead to immune evasion of prior antibodies. We can't predict waves or their sizes or their consequences. Endemic implies an expected rate of infection and consequence. We don't have that with Covid.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@asbestos @AlexKourvo I might even consider what the researchers found to be good news if the vaccines were actually being updated with any frequency and whether the public at large was being authorized to get updated vaccines with enough regularity to keep antibodies at high levels...but we're not. My last vaccination was in September. The vast majority of the protective effect against clinical consequence I got from that most recent booster is gone, as antibodies wane.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@asbestos @AlexKourvo The best correlate to clinical protection has always been to have a well matched booster within the last 4 months or so. I'd absolute get an updated booster on the schedule if I was able. Under current US rules, I'm not able to, despite an abundance of evidence that would offer me the best protection against Long Covid, hospitalization and worse.

Analysis

"Biden’s floating pier off Gaza is... a Potemkin Village"

The US practices theatrics while refugees starve amid rivers of shit

While the pier "isn’t completely useless, it cannot replace overland truck deliveries.

"At most it will supply 150 trucks daily, when 500 are needed.

"It is a PR band-aid on the gaping wound of.. genocidal blockage of aid."

https://www.juancole.com/2024/05/theatrics-starving-refugees.html

..

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@DrALJONES According to UNRWA, April averaged 183 trucks a day via land. May has averaged just 70 and almost all of that was before Israel seized the borders and halted almost all truck passage. Only 70 total trucks have been allowed through since then.

Basically, unless the pier averages 183 trucks a day, then it isn't even replacing what came through before. The US has also halted all airdrop efforts, which averaged less than 20 tons a day since March 02.

https://www.unrwa.org/what-we-do/gaza-supplies-and-dispatch-tracking

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@DrALJONES There were simpler ways to bring aid in by water and WCK had their jetty operation more than two months ago. The new trident pier is right next to the jetty. The US could have used NGOs to ship in US aid from Cyprus at any point.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@DrALJONES Equally, the US has a tremendous airdrop capacity which went almost entirely unused during their PR show. The US has 600+ airdrop capable C-17's and C-130's and never used more than 4 of them in an airdrop and never made more than 1 airdrop in a day.

I kid you not, but Don Rumsfeld airdropped more aid over Afghanistan in one month in 2001 than Joe Biden has over Gaza.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@DrALJONES Just 17 C-130 flights a day from Cyprus or Jordan loaded with HDRs could have kept the north out of famine. That is two flights of 9 C-130's or 3 flights of 6. Very doable. The airfield they're using in Jordan is ~140 miles away. Cyprus is 250 miles. They chose to do a token airdrop effort for show rather than a earnest effort to deliver real relief when that was perfectly feasible.

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@DrALJONES The total tonnage of food/water dropped by air by the US was 1220 tons according to US Centcom. The UK did about 120 tons. That is basically 1/10th of what the US Air Force and UK RAF did in a SINGLE DAY during the peak of the Berlin Airlift. And, in fact, by the second week of the Berlin Airlift, the US was delivering more tonnage daily to Berlin than the US of today did in 2 month and 1 week over Gaza.

QasimRashid, to random
@QasimRashid@mastodon.social avatar

To recap the last 24 hours:
•No UNRWA aid allowed, period
•No aid trucks in Gaza since May 5
•Israeli settlers destroy aid near border crossing
•White House approves $1B more in military aid to Israel

Embodying "money for war but can't feed the poor" in all it's shamefulness

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid Also, no US airdrops since the 9th and the JLOTS floating pier is nowhere to be seen. Like, I literally can't find it on Sentinel-2 satellite imagery.

There is effectively ZERO aid coming into Gaza, who population is almost entirely reliant on aid trucks for food and fuel. And without fuel, there is no potable water (since almost all potable water comes from desalination), sanitation, etc.

Infoseepage, to random
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

The US has not airdropped any food over Gaza since May 9th. The total dropped by the US in total since March 2nd is 1220 ton. By the second week of the Berlin Airlift, the US had delivered more and by week three was dropping more tonnage daily than the US has dropped in total in more than 2 months. In fact, at its peak, the US and the UK were dropping close to 13000 tons A DAY to supply West Berlin with its food and fuel needs.

Per US Centcom, the US doesn't appear to have done any airdrops of food since the 9th. The effort was always meager in the extreme, but right now essentially zero aid is flowing into Gaza.

Hörður Kristleifsson posted another of his 360 degree aerial panoramas of the eruption site in Iceland. This one was taken right after the eruption officially ended and you can seen down into the splatter cone, now devoid of lava.

Very cool and neat tool for getting an idea of the ground coverage this cycle of eruption produced.

The Icelandic Met has issued a new bulletin about magma buildup in the Svartsengi area. Their current estimate of magma buildup based on surface deformation/land rise is 14 million cubic meters, which is equal or greater to the amounts which previously triggered eruptions in the area. They're advising that another eruption may be imminent and with very little warning, as the ground is already heavily fractured.

I'm debating reviving my official pixelfed hosting service idea, it's not a regular host service though!

Rather you'd bring a S3, Hetzner, Linode, DigitalOcean API key to our service

We would provision or otherwise manage (1-click updates, automated backups) your instance while allowing you to maintain total control over ownership of the underlying server and data

I'm thinking $5-20 a month for this, and it would allow admins a new level of peace of mind while maintaining total control

Wdyt?

Infoseepage,
@Infoseepage@mastodon.social avatar

@dansup I really like this idea. I've been a longtime Flickr user and have invested a lot of time pushing my photos to there, but it hasn't kept up with the times and has gone through a whole series of corporate acquisitions and pricing changes such that I no long upload photos there. It's a dead archive for me.

I love the idea of small "sovereign" hosting where I'm not going to get jerked around by the whims of the corporate world.

I’ve said this before but apparently it hasn’t sunk in but if you say “Biden has lost my vote”, don’t expect anyone to listen to you or be surprised he’s not out gunning for it. The election is 6 months out. If there’s no way you’re voting for him, nobody fucking cares what you want.

You can enjoy likely a 7-2 or 8-1 conservative SCOTUS that will be grinding down our rights for the next generation or three. Enjoy that.

@Pineywoozle @rohaq @jeff @TonyStark Your condescension is clear. I'm not voting for Biden in November. Many liberals for whom Biden's actions are absolutely beyond redemption won't either. He's already likely well beyond the margins for victory. The Democratic party needs to deal with that and deal with that promptly or they're going to lose massively in November. That isn't my fault, that is theirs.

This is clearly the feature that every user was asking for, for their $1000+ devices to have the rigidity of disposable aluminum grocery store cookware. 5mm thick is just stupidly thin. My Ipad Mini is 18mm thick in the case I got to make it actually real-world use survivable.

@w7voa Someone should really ask him for an exact accounting of how much of everything he's sent him, particularly artillery shells, mk82, mk84 bombs, jdam kits, tank shells, etc.

I think the American public deserves to know just how much of the razing of hundreds of thousands of buildings in Gaza was done with American bombs.

Israel could have never acted against Gaza in the way that it has without the full bodied support of Joe Biden over the last 7 months.
