@GottaLaff @emptywheel Since it’s pretty much a given that Jeffries can’t get to 217, WHAT IF Democrats all voted for one of the least extremist, most bipartisan Republicans — maybe someone like Brian Fitzpatrick from PA. It would then require only a handful of Republicans to elect him. Would he have to accept the speakership or could he decline given how f**ked up his party is? At least it would keep one of the crazies from taking over. Is this remotely feasible or am I being incredibly naive?

@GottaLaff I did say “least extremist.” 😉 Sometime when you have a few minutes to spare, scroll through Brian Fitzpatrick’s Wikipedia page. He’s in a swing district and he’s not one of the crazies. Former FBI/US Attorney, got an “F” from the NRA, supports same sex marriage, anti-gerrymandering, pro environment, etc.
