This is a question for those who have moved from as their primary social media microblogging site to a Mastodon (or other ActivityPub) instance.

  1. Why did you move from to a different platform, a Federated one?
  2. Did you know anything about Mastodon, or other Federated platforms, before Threads turned on Federation?
  3. How is the experience better, worse, the same compared to Threads?
  4. Are you maintaining dual accounts now or are you completely off Threads?
  5. Other thoughts on the topic?

My daughter's music group, , in Japan, on June 7th, will release an album through Universal Music Japan, titled, , which translates to Phoenix, Firebird, Immortal Bird. In Japanese culture, it's also a symbol of hope and renewal.

They'll be touring later as well through Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.

I'm so incredibly proud of Rina. She has amazing music talent and her music career is doing so great! She's the one in the middle in the group picture.

"Phoenix" was the life's work of Japan's world-renowned artist Osamu , This is an official album produced with Tezuka Productions.

The album's preface has comments from Osamu Tezuka's eldest daughter, Rumiko Tezuka.

Some random person told me they are blocking me because I don't block threads.

And I wonder, why did he tell me this? Can someone be so arrogant and self-centered to believe that I would care that he, a total stranger, has blocked me? Does he think that he is so important that this would hurt me? Whatever was he expecting the impact to be from me?

He blocked me. So, why would I care???

I live on this planet with people, but I definitely don't understand a lot of them.

Your thoughts? Help me understand.

President Biden has turned on the Federation option for his Threads account!

While we have threads.net limited here because of the expectation of poor moderation, his account, as well as a number of others, have been exempted from limiting and can be followed in hear-me.social the same as any Mastodon account.

Remember, though, the feature is in beta. It's one way. You can read posts from accounts, but those accounts cannot yet see replies, nor can they see who favorited or boosted their posts.

And THIS is why I hate corporate social media....🤬

Literally made a Threads/Insta account and got InstaBanned without even doing anything....submitted an appeal.

30 or so hours later I realize I can actually login (they didn't send ANY email) and start setting up my profile and notice Fediverse option isn't there. After mucking around for 30 minutes or so, I'm banned AGAIN! I didn't even post anything or put anything in my bio...the only thing I did was upload my profile pic....WTF.

Threads apparently has enough users....🤦‍♂️🤬

I was curious how a Threads account shows up on the Fediverse.

I have seen Threads users on the Fediverse — but I noticed that when I tried looking up many people, they didn't show up.

Later, I saw mention of Threads users having to enable Fediverse.

This is how a Threads user turns on "Fediverse sharing" on their Threads account.

Apparently not many people believe me when I say that "normal" users using the "block this domain" option, is functionally just a mute....

There's gonna be LOTS of very mad people when they find out for themselves that meta/Threads can still see their posts....😬🤦‍♂️

To actually block Threads, you have to be on an instance that actually blocks them. As of right now, the biggest instance that blocks Threads is masto.to

So all this talk most of you are doing, means absolutely nothing because the majority of you are still federated....

@BeAware If I'm on an instance the blocks Threads, and I post something, and my account is followed by someone on an instance that does not block Threads, and my follower boosts my post, then anyone on Threads following my follower will see my post (assuming the day has come when messages flow from Mastodon to Threads). And that Threads account can then boost it on Threads and my post, from a Mastodon Threads blocking instance, can then even go viral on Threads.

Isn't this so?

Soofa tries hard to convince people there is no threat because THEY don't share with 3rd parties, but only turn the information over to the municipalities.

Beyond that, though, they can't assure that governments won't share, nor can they vouch for how well municipalities will protect the data.

Very concerning as a privacy issue.

Most people are probably "meh" about it. A bunch for it.

There's a small loud contingent opposed is my thinking on this.

If this were 2004, I think these same people would be setting up email filters to block gmail and only accepting email from non-corporate owned email providers.
