In many parts of the US there is no where teens can hang out without spending money. My South Bronx neighborhood probably beats many cities, suburbs and small towns. (we have a skate park, and a larger park with benches-- though could use more options, for example a nicer library for kids who don't like noise)

In some towns libraries ban "teens congregating" playgrounds are out of bounds & groups of teens get the cops called on them.

This is the real reason young people don't go out anymore.

LukefromDC,

@futurebird

This shit is a subset of a broader effort to ensure NOBODY can lawfully be out of their own home unless working or shopping, as though whole cities were shopping malls. Kids today, everyone tomorrow.

This needs to be resisted with utmost force, and those who promote crackdowns on people hanging out without spending money need to be punished.

A better answer than staying home is going out in defensible packs too big for cops to fuck with short of a major operation. Think of the dirt bike kids in Washington DC, riding in packs both before and after curfew on unregistered small motorcycles and ATV's.

These kids are expert riders, and their steeds are better suited to urban warfare (what the cops bring) than anything the police have in their garage. It is extremely rare for a cop to catch one, and they don't get to take on just one. Fight one, fight ALL.

If there is ZERO money and gas is not affordable (or does not exist), cops find things like Critical Mass bike rides in traffic to be nearly as difficult targets as the dirt bikers, and some of the biggest rides are ten times the size of the DC dirt biker group rides.

Fuck the police, fuck the BID's and other gentrification districts, and fuck those who want to make all activities other than working and shopping illegal. Nobody tells me I am not allowed to go out without spending money and gets away with it!

Imagine that everyone complicit in working workers in South Florida to death were to sit down for a banquet. Who would be at the head of the table?

The investment funds Blackrock, Vanguard, and Wellington own the largest stakes in Sysco $SYS working for their shareholders. Browsing their top shareholders, we find the tech companies, the pharmaceutical companies, Big Ag, other banks, and the military industrial complex. No surprise, the oligarchs we know by name. These bankers would be sitting next to them at the head of the table, lapping up their scraps.

As farms across South Florida continue to exploit those hunted by the immigration Gestapo, do not limit yourself to raging at those on the ground. Capitalism is destroying this world, creating the very heat that is killing these workers. Capitalism makes class traitors of us all and some wholeheartedly embrace this. Capitalism thrives because of nation states and borders, dividing the people with militarized borders. But it shall fall.

It must fall. And we shall bring it down.

I'm gonna be real, here in semi-anonymous internet land. I'm not a survivor. I don't want to live in a world with dead oceans, burning forests, dying deserts, dessicating grasslands. I don't want to keep waking up every day to billionaires and their ass-licking politician puppets deciding who gets to live, who gets rights, who gets their freedom taken away forever. I don't want the only "hope" to be voices that are loudly dissenting on the internet and mysteriously quiet when it comes to talking real talk about how to take down a system when you can't really actually fight it with force - when everything is too little too late. I don't want to see the creatures and people I love live in ever-increasing fear and desperation. I'm not good enough at anything to help them, and I'm not strong enough to watch this planet die. I don't know why I'm saying it out loud, but maybe it's because I think there's gotta be more people than just me feeling this, the inescapable realness of it, and I just wanna know that I'm not totally alone and/or crazy. I dunno. Maybe I am. Maybe I just suck more than most people, but at this point, it is what it is. Sorry for bringing the vibe down. Surrenders the aux cord

LukefromDC,

@simon_brooke @angelteeth Oh yeah, I fully expect the shit in the US to look a like like Syria circa 2015. We even have our own homegrown religious extremists and a lot of them.

Daesh maxed out at something like 3 divisions of fighters, a "Christian State in the United States and Canada" could easily field an army ten times that size.

We are in a multipolar low level insurgency now in the US, many other countries are even less stable, and the climate is crashing down in flames-literally.

Requiring a "skilled person" write a report before mass surveillance is imposed does little

Especially given that the UK gov HAS ALREADY heard from hundreds of skilled experts restating longstanding consensus: there's no such thing as a safe backdoor.

LukefromDC,

A mesh network is impossible to control if anything happens to the Internet.

Short of that, China finds their Great Firewall hugely labor-intensive to run, and constantly being shot full of holes by VPN's, Tor, and bridge nodes that change too fast for them to keep up with.

LukefromDC,

@kentindell @Mer__edith @bloor
Also note that mass surveillance is why I am not on any corporate social media site and do not use cloud storage at all. Also one more reason I do not allow any ads or trackers, on any site(no whitelist).

Three letter agencies do not require a warrant to buy tracking data from the ad networks and data aggregators, because the only "warrant" anyone needs for that is being able to pay for it. You can think of ad supported sites as engaged in "server side scanning" NOW.

In the Apple case, all of the proposed client-side scanning involved apps I would never have used if I wanted an Apple phone. This is defense in depth.

There are two reasons I advise people not to buy Apple: price, and control. Apple is a walled garden, and even if you manage to jailbreak a phone, you then have to block all updates to avoid losing the jailbreak.

Allow Apple or Google to control your phone and any app provided by either could get client-side scanning (say for targetted advertising) added at any time.

NEW: Will the Gulf of Guinea Ever be Free of Piracy?

Maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea continues to pose a serious threat to the safety of crew members as well as the integrity of international trade. Despite considerable progress made through initiatives like Nigeria’s Deep Blue Project, challenges persist. Corruption, illegal fishing, political instability, and a high unemployment rate contribute to the ongoing problem.

LukefromDC,

@UnicornRiot Interesting report, different history than here 300 years ago or Somolia a bit over a decade ago.

LukefromDC,

@UnicornRiot Funny how much pirate-themed stuff we have in Tampa where nobody has practiced maritime piracy in centuries.

Still, in Somolia piracy began as a response to industrialized countries dumping toxic and nuclear waste in people's fishing grounds. Fisherman hired gang members to suppress the dumping and it was ON! With that history I could indeed see having a soccer team called the "Buccaneers" there.

The original buccaneers targeted big, slow Spanish galleons loaded w loot stolen from Indigenous land with slave labor. In one notorious incident Indigenous people deemed not to have produced enough gold were lined up and had their hands and noses chopped off. Thus everything and everyone on those fucking galleons was a legitimate target of war.

We’re unsure of when this took place but we do know that it’s been there for at least a couple weeks and has not been cleaned up, as of this morning. See for yourself outside his office on Marine Mile Blvd.

@miaantifanews I saw a van burning on I-275 tonight, too bad it wasn't that one. Traffic crash, destroyed another car and the fuel system was hit. Ugly mess and nasty fire. I hope fire engines got there before the contents of the van could burn too.

John Brown was known for his militant tactics in the fight against slavery while Frederick Douglass, the slave who became a powerful orator & writer, used the power of words and alliances to end that barbarous practice. Although the two men shared the same goal, their approaches were vastly different, and their relationship was often strained. In fact, John Brown's actions almost got Frederick Douglass killed.

This guide by M_osint takes you through a detailed process of geolocating photos & videos & provides you with techniques, tools & skills. Available in Arabic. https://kit.exposingtheinvisible.org/en/geolocation.html

    LukefromDC,

@info_activism There is also the opposite scenaro: producing video of a protest or a direct action that you want to make as difficult as possible for prosecutors to use in court. In this scenario, metadata is stripped and heavy editing including blurring faces may be applied.

All this depends on what the video is being used for. Clips sent to defense attorneys may require different handling than a communique published via a sock puppet account. A clip of war crimes or police brutality is a special case: in that scenario the video should be provable as to when and where is was shot and forensically difficult to challenge. If you shoot something like this on a camera card, stop shooting to that card afterwards but only remove it from the camera if you KNOW this won't risk losing it outright. If it's a fullsize camera card set the slider for read-only. Do not write to it again, just read the clips from it into a computer, preferably with it mounted read-only. Then set it aside in a secure place.

I’m hearing murmurs of YouTube blocking browsers that support ad blockers.

You know where you don’t have to worry about such things? Host your videos on a instance and use for your live video streaming needs.

But of course you already knew that.

    LukefromDC,

@owncast I will never allow ads. I would rather block an entire site than allow it to serve ads.

I normally keep everything owned by Google or Facebook blocked except for in Torbrowser or via ed party frontends.

If Youtube becomes something like Hulu or Netflix that depends on approved hardware or software, I will treat the entire site as having been entirely shut down. It is likely that a significant portion of Youtube's user base would abandon them as well in this case. Adblocking is used by almost half of desktop/laptop users.

You will NOT find my videos on Youtube unless reposted there by a 3ed party. I am generally unaware of such posts as I neither have nor want a Google account. I host them here directly and on archive.org which does not log IP addresses and does not support itself by ads at all.

Remember, they can hide their content behind adwalls or paywalls, but they cannot force you to consume it. I can live with a 100% shutdown (or block) of every single ad supported site on the net

A single phone number is a valuable asset used to verify a person’s identity and behaviour, not only in digital spaces but also in physical spaces.

Find out how your phone number is shared and traded with other entities: https://theglassroom.org/en/capsule-1-0/exhibits/your-phone-number-is-not-only-yours/

    LukefromDC,

@info_activism If you don't shop online, bank online, or use corporate social media you can block almost all of those trackers, leaving only your ISP as a hazard. I use a phone with no Google Play Sevices and no ad supported anything on it. I never see ads on my phone at all. The majority of corporate websites plus the shopping and banking sites are completely nonfunctional and many just don't load. Google and Meta are blocked outright on my end.

Some thought not all dating apps etc can be quarantined to a non-activated second phone tethered to your main connection. Obviously anything requiring a Facebook or Google account should be boycotted

Main way a corporation would get my phone number is anyone having me in their contacts and having the Facebook app installed. I do not, but someone having my phone number and using the FB app is probably equivalent to sending it to FB myself. This app is known to steal contact lists and send them to FB unless contact syncing is turned off and KEPT turned off when "updates" reset privacy preferences back to defaults.
