With the introduction of Dolby Surround 7.1 in 2010, Sony were eager to put out a full home theater system. One of their early models, the HT-A7.100, included a revolutionary evolution to the standard stereo jack: the 7.1 surround jack, allowing all 8 channels to be sent over one cable.

Having a charge-the-collection day. Every time I do this iPod I forget it's a HD based machine until partway through it fires up the drive with a noise that sounds like the ones that early morning huntsman spiders make when they click to each other on the walls.

@NanoRaptor “early morning huntsman spiders make when they click to each other” I am all too familiar with that sound.

One of my oldest pics doing the rounds again.

One throwaway pixeljob 25 years ago, and now a substantial part of the population of Australia remembers the edit as the truth of it.

Bit proud of that.

@NanoRaptor Mandela effect actually statistical error; most people have 0 mistaken memories. Photoshops Dana, who lives in Australia and posts 1,000 fake products every day, is an outlier and should not have been counted.

@Cdespinosa @pixel The plot thickens. “I bought this item at a charity auction during my trip to Munic at Christmas 2001. As you can see, the invoice is expressed in the old German currency, before the entry of the EURO.”

I think there’s a chance this story might be true — and this is a bamboozlee, not the original bamboozler.

Calling all Germans! @map

(But then again: if this person enjoys forging documents, this would be a fun one to forge.)

That’s not my original sketch, which was on a National engineering pad.

This never became popular due to it requiring 2 people to operate, one on the keyboard and the other controlling the trackpad and to read the screen, balanced on their laps.
Codenamed the "Duo", it was originally designed as a dating computer, where people could find out if they were compatible. The development of dating websites on the then new World Wide Web obviated the need for such a product.
The only remnant of the product was the codename Duo and the term laptop.

If I were to go hunt down an old ThinkPad as the one ThinkPad for my collection, given the Wallstreet PowerBook is one of my ever-favourites, what year & model should I be hovering around?

cstross,
@cstross@wandering.shop avatar

@guffo @NanoRaptor In particular you want the Thinkpad 701P model with the PowerPC 603e processor running MacOS 7 during that brief period when IBM was courting Apple and paying the MacOS license fee! An absolute classic, and as rare as hens teeth.
