Donald Trump at his New Jersey speech:

“The late, great Hannibal Lecter is a wonderful man,” Trump continued. “He oftentimes would have a friend for dinner. Remember the last scene? ‘Excuse me, I’m about to have a friend for dinner’ as this poor doctor walked by. ‘I’m about to have a friend for dinner.’ But Hannibal Lecter, congratulations. The late, great Hannibal Lecter.”

I wondered about the "late, great Hannibal Lecter" line so I had to check if Anthony Hopkins was still alive. He is.

Former Trump aide bragging on TikTok:

"So I always keep this fake Hollywood money in my car, so when a homeless person asks for money, and I give them like a $5 bill, I feel good about myself, they feel good," said McEntee, also a senior advisor to Project 2025. "And then when they go to use it, they get arrested, so I'm actually helping to clean up the community and get them off the street."

My Mother, in 1980:

“You know, I’ve always said, if you can’t think of anything nice to say about someone, you should say nothing at all.”

“What was the question? Oh yes, what do I think about Reagan.”

She then sipped her coffee in complete silence.

Miss you Mom.

The only time I’ve been beaten by police was in NYC in 1969.

I was at a peace rally at a field near the edge of Central Park and was one of the volunteers on the perimeter. A van pulled up on the path. A group, in full Nazi attire and carrying Swastika flags, jumped out right next to the rally. They ended up running away, chased by some from the crowd. Several of us ran alongside yelling at people to turn back, to little avail.
Two blocks away they turned a corner and…

ran into the phalanx of police waiting for us. The Nazis set around joking with the cops, while the rest of us were pummeled.
I was lucky because I got away, with only severe bruising on my chest and a small scalp cut from being thrown on the ground.

But that’s not what I came to tell you about.
Came to talk about the press.

I was somewhat dazed and wandered around looking for the subway entrance. Someone came up to me to help, asking if I needed to go to the ER. I declined. I looked worse than I felt. Head covered in blood does that.

He was a reporter for the New York Times. He had been at the rally. And had seen the Nazi disruption.

He bought me a coffee and we talked for awhile. I asked if he was going to include it in his article. He said yes, but it would not be printed. It would be cut.

He was right.

This never became popular due to it requiring 2 people to operate, one on the keyboard and the other controlling the trackpad and to read the screen, balanced on their laps.
Codenamed the "Duo", it was originally designed as a dating computer, where people could find out if they were compatible. The development of dating websites on the then new World Wide Web obviated the need for such a product.
The only remnant of the product was the codename Duo and the term laptop.

There are good reporters and columnists, including conservatives, at the NYT.

Ross Douthat is not one of them.

Among other things, he is an anti-abortion extremist that believes a fertilized egg is a person, so abortion at any age, and any form of birth control that prevents implantation is murder.

His other views are equally obnoxious.

Notice he does not say Trump is too old.

The only reason he would write such a column is that he's afraid Biden will win.

When my late son was in jail, he fell and broke 4 teeth. No dental care in jail. He was told to take ibuprofen which he could buy from the commissary.

The price? 95 cents. For two tablets.

Since he then couldn't work, he started again accruing the $34/day "room and board" fee.

They also started seizing half the money I put on his commissary account to pay part of this fee.

Looks like the first person to suggest Shakespeare was the pseudonym of Edward de Vere, Earl of Oxford, was Francis Meres—in 1598. George Puttenham mentioned in 1589 rumors that de Vere wrote plays covertly.

Article has some interesting side observations such as de Vere being a "crossdresser", and that Oxfordians include several justices of the US Supreme Court. [Although the latter might militate against the theory, considering their recent rulings.]

But NFTs? They seem such an obvious scam. Well except for the one of a Nigerian prince. That's clearly legit. He told me so himself.

Journalist Jonathan Katz fact checked Katie Britt’s horrific rape story from her over-the-top rebuttal.
Despite all the drama, it turns out to be a story that happened 20 years ago - and not in the U.S. but in Mexico. It’s a story that was recounted in Congressional testimony in 2015.

Katie lied when she blamed this on Joe ’s border policies and when she said it happened in the U.S.
