While there aren't any specific rewards yet here, it'd be a good way to advertise this magazine there with the DT sticky, sidebar, or banner rewards and kill mosquitos at the same time!

Or if you don't care about spreading this magazine, you can still kill some mosquitos and save some lives!

#emacs #logseq anyone have a working setup with logseq (in orgdown) and #orgroam playing nice in logseq's folder (orgroam dailies in 'journals', etc)? Currently my vault is a mix of org and md but I'm hoping to at least get the org files recognized while I work on converting the md (or figure out #mdroam). I tried playing with org-logseq but even though I'm matching correctly on its grep for the folder and I have title properties I couldn't get it working after a good attempt. #askfedi

I really want KC to Omaha, OKC to Witchita, and Twin Cities to Omaha Amtrak routes to be the next targets for federal rail funding. All have existing private rail links, so cost would be minimal with huge impacts on connectivity even with limited service. It's the missing links for KCY-MSP, STL-DEN, OMA-DFW, and OKC-CHI to transform multiple days to hours. /soapbox

Reminder - many states are voting in their primaries tomorrow and most are later than today. No matter your views about the near-predicatable presidential primaries, important local elections are also on the primary ballots, including many that might be decided before the general elections. Whatโ€™s a good appreciation gift for a team member who cracks the case? Today a network admin in our IT team caught an ancient sftp server being abused and shut it down. Iโ€™m thinking a 6 pack of craft beer.

What has your team done for people who go above and beyond in finding and stopping incidents?

Neblib,
@Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

@kemotep @Legit_Spaghetti some organizations have a "this guy did great" cash rewards (with a certain amount usable per employee per year), might be worth asking HR if your org has similar. Also sending a note to their supervisor selling their praise is always awesome too and can help if your org does annual review/performance bonuses/etc . Gift cards sometimes work better than booze unless you know they partake + know their preference, but a six pack is a good idea if they'd like it.

@NBAnthony2k@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

Does anyone know if you can actually do computer work while on trains? I think i've found a loophole for my long commutes. It'd be a little longer than driving, but if i can spend even half of it working on a then it would be much shorter day overall

Neblib,
@Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

@NBAnthony2k many routes have wifi now but it's only scoped for light browsing not RDPing (or similar needing a consistent connection). If you are on a route with consistent cell coverage with your carrier you probably can hotspot, but I found my connection dropped just often enough between small towns that made it too frustrating to work on the Zephyr.

Neblib,
@Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

@Tutanota I've been using for the past year. It's an awesome open-source combination of outliner/block-based notetaking mixed with electron-based feature-rich Zettlekasten's like Obsidian or Foam, and is similarly file based meaning low lock-in risks and easy integration with other tools. It also has a lot of cool features like Datalog integration, pdf & video tools, a nice mobile app, and lots of great opinionated defaults. I've been only using md, but it also supports org formatting.

Realisticly, how much low quality data would we need to poison ? Is it even possible at this point? Like how many sites would need to write a post stating that we now call Altman an โ€œaltholeโ€?

Neblib,
@Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

@mms if I was writing open ai's spider, I'd have it in batches use a deep learning model (not generative text) to score the reliability of the information as it picks it up, with a lower scoring bias for more recent information and higher scoring bias for more reliable and multiple sources. Since it's core data that it trusts is pre 2023, I think we're far too late for any poisoning strategy to be effective outside of niche new information generation.

That feeling when you are running a bit late so you rush to your bus stop to find the one bus that services your route passing by your stop several minutes early, and you left your bike at home that day. Oops! Luckily I have other options than a very long hike back, but I wish we weren't in such a chicken/egg problem of ridership/service so my metro could offer more than one a day per direction hit times on more routes (and more routes in general).

Neblib,
@Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

@NBAnthony2k I wish that was an always done on all routes thing, but I find the more infrequent a route (and therefore more useful to have the GPS information to make the connections) would be the less likely it is the driver is broadcasting their location in my metro.
