Some good health news: an effective, universal vaccine will likely be developed for :

"The first pan-coronavirus ("universal") vaccine Phase 1 clinical trial results are encouraging for eliciting broad sarbecovirus, variant immune response.

We haven't seen this in people before:

Individuals vaccinated with SpFN/ALFQ had robust
cell-mediated and antibody responses against multiple clade 1 sarbecoviruses."

@KimPerales At a glance, it looks like it has similar NAB counts to the current vaccines, but more variant resistant, which is likely a huge upgrade

For my birthday, I'd really like it if my beloved fedi could spread word far and wide of Kitsune Tails. It's a platformer with a heartwarming story featuring queer main characters and personal discoveries in classic SMB3 style. You can find trailer, screenshots, and wishlist links here: https://kitsunegames.com/kitsunetails

It's coming out this year and the team and I have been working hard on it for several years now. Most of the team is queer in some form so by boosting you'd not only be making me happy on my birthday, but supporting a bunch of queer creators making queer art as well

yuzu kitsune tails, a purple haired fox girl, picks up samurai armor in a tower that's rapidly filling with lava. she jumps away from the rising lava and sticks her spear in the wall, doing a dashing twirl to get on top of it. she walks off the spear and into a new scene, fighting a ghost fox with armor and spear. it stabs and she jumps over, but is caught by a follow up stab. the ghost fox over extends and its ghostly powers wane, giving yuzu a chance to bop on its head

Njord,
@Njord@peoplemaking.games avatar

@glassbottommeg @eniko As is appropriate. Kitsune Tails uses parts of the Super Bernie World Engine, and some reviews of that game did call the team a Satanic Coven 😉

as someone who has lived in both the US and EU i think the standard date formats are confusing as fuck and everyone should switch to ISO 8601 yyyy-mm-dd

Njord,
@Njord@peoplemaking.games avatar

@eniko You can use context clues. if it's a Website, then even that is unreliable, since, a decent number of websites here use US date format

I wear a Stealthmask Dental, because it is an elastomeric ffp3(n99) mask that white and looks like a big N95 mask, so it doesn't upset people.

Deep down, though I want to wear my North 7600, because it is big and in your face, and intimidates the heck out of people.

Waves are a decent analogy, since even in troughs, there is still quite a lot of ocean/covid.

I don't go out often, but I wore this to the pharmacy on Saturday morning. So, here is a selfie of me in my usual ffp3 Stealthmask Dental. It works decently with my glasses, although they do sit a bit high due to the mask. Still, it is easy to breathe in, and very "normal" looking for an ffp3 elastomeric, which makes it my go-to mask these days

hlabrande, to random
@hlabrande@mstdn.ca avatar

On , I frequently read (and empathize with) people around here posting abt comments by various ppl questioning their masks. It sucks!

Wanted to give an other perspective: I've worn N95s (pillowy Dräger 1750) at the office for 2 years (incl. dozens of business meetings) and nobody's ever said anything about it. (A couple of "are you sick today or just cautious" in 2 years.)

Your mileage may vary, but in case you've been thinking about trying, hope hearing that might help?

Njord,
@Njord@peoplemaking.games avatar

@samohTmaS @hlabrande ffp3 is n99 not n95, and ffp2 would be n94(were there to be such a rating), not n90, just to clarify

I don't know who needs to know this, but it is well worth mentioning that the best way to caramelize onions is to do it in bulk in a slow cooker, then freeze them

Starting a new megathread for this journey to Japan with my mom and my husband. For context: https://mastodon.social/@elana/111655428432932463 You can scroll up to the top of that megathread for discussion of my previous trip in September with my mom!

So here’s my first datapoint from this trip: the Maple Leaf Lounge at Pearson Airport has a CO2 of 667 ppm. Lower than the fancypants lounge we went to last time (~700 ppm)! Probably due to the high ceilings and massive airspace! Value 😁

Njord,
@Njord@peoplemaking.games avatar

@elana @eniko Yeah. It takes roughly 100 unmasked hours in a crowded enclosed space to catch it according to several recent studies. That's bad, but at 1k breaths per hour you'd have less than 1 100,000th of the average exposure needed to contract it, so you probably don't need to worry too much (easier said than done, I know)

Njord,
@Njord@peoplemaking.games avatar

@Pentapod @elana @eniko

1% per hour is an average. There are reported infections in less than a minute.

Anyhow, here's a study showing a 1.1% hourly risk.

@brouhaha It wasn't so bad before, except the weather. it wads an okayish place with decent infrastructure and a low cost of living.

Now, however it is one of the very worst places in the US

It really is quite brisk, and the way they build houses here with cement blocks and no insulation definitely doesn't help.

I really miss being able to heat my house to 70f/21c and have heating bills o like $50 a month in winter

Despite not having been born in Missouri, and putting 10,000 KM and a literal ocean between me and it, sometimes on a gut level I still feel ashamed to have lived in a place that decided to so wholeheartedly embrace hatred and fascism.

Saw a friend today who got COVID in late November. She is having tachycardia when she lays down and she also constantly has a sensation that her lungs are being squeezed. She is now on albuterol treatments and oral steroids. Sje is falling asleep by 7:00 every night. This is a woman who has been a powerhouse of energy since the day I met her. She looked straight at me today and said, “I was healthy before COVID.”

Njord,
@Njord@peoplemaking.games avatar

@FetidTrash @DrPsyBuffy

if you add in the fact that there is also a 2% (and that is the most optimistic number according to the CDC) chance per infection of severe disability, and that people get is a couple times a year on average, that works out to a 2.7% chance per infection, or 5.4% per year for people to either die or become severely disabled, or basically a cointoss that your life as you know it will be over within a decade, if you are just getting repeatedly infected by covid

To be clear, the CDC defines severe disability as WORSE than a major stroke.
