Wow, it's the middle of the night in Pakistan and India, and the "feels like" temperature in Hyderabad is 106F. Earlier it was "feels like" 120F including humidity.

Since "Yale Climate Connections" instigated all this, I'll give them the final word on my end — the cartoon posted here https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2019/12/where-should-i-move-to-be-safe-from-climate-change/ (because when you search "safest state from climate change" you find 50 different answers — at least 🤪)

restaurant in is in . The one-time mining boom town is atop the Continental Divide about 200 miles south of the Canadian border. ..about as far from a traditional as you can get. Established in 1911 by Tam Kwong Yee and his business partner, Hum Yow -- both 1st-generation -- occupies a nondescript brick building on the only remaining block of what was once a bustling Chinatown.

Wish I could find the article or a cite — pretty sure it was the great historian Stanley Karnow in an articles that on the history of Chinese restaurants in the US who said something to the effect of:

If ever in a small town and you only have two dining choices, choose the Chinese restaurant.

#KnowNothing #CardiB is too stupid to realize that NOT voting for #Biden is a vote FOR #Trump, and that her boycott of #Election2024 could be her last — She might not get another opportunity to vote EVER.

Very good cartoon. Idealism versus pragmatic reality. This 👇= best brief essay/OpEd I've seen stating the same thing, perhaps with a bit more substance to back up the message:

"Abandoning Biden could repeat the 1968 mistakes that helped elect Nixon" (me: only this would be much worse*) https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/5/12/2239229/-Abandoning-Biden-could-repeat-the-1968-mistakes-that-helped-elect-Nixon

The new robotaxi from Baidu costs $27,500, which is half the cost of any other non-Chinese autonomous vehicle project forecast. It’s definitely cheaper than your car!

The world has changed.

If only the US and other countries could either jumpstart similar projects (i.e., with price and mass production in mind) at home or collaborate — and if only the Chinese were more mindful of international trade agreements, etc. Could be win-win, but global politics suggests otherwise at present.

Yo, if you live in Berlin and have a sunny balcony/garden/window. You can get a plug-in solar setup for basically free.
This city subsidy program gives you up to 500€ for a setup and most only cost you around 300-400€.
Its basically free electricity for your apartment/home.

E: Actually a lot more citites and even some states offer similar programs: https://www.vattenfall.de/infowelt-energie/solar/balkonkraftwerk-foerderung

No idea what sort of birds these are — sorry about the dogs. We heard this cacophony while out walking this evening. I thought they might be Eastern Screech Owls, but now not so sure.

#BirdsOfMastodon

Video shot on the edge of the woods this evening — deep shadows and a bit of darkening sky. No idea what birds are making noise. There are also a couple of dogs barking in the distance.

Jews from Arab lands are the missing piece of the Israeli-Palestinian discourse by American Syrian Jew Lisa Sayegh May 7, 2024

"...Over the past years, I have often been frustrated when I find people do not understand the trauma of the 700,000 Jews from all over the Middle East who were violently expelled from their countries in 1948 and how it resonates today. Pro-Palestinian activists who call out Israel as a “European settler colonial project” omit a critical part of the story that calls into question their claim. They ignore the Mizrahi majority in Israel who are descendants of Jews expelled from Arab lands when Israel was declared a state..."

My Persian college roommate said that his family could trace their roots ~1,900 years back in Iran, until relatively contemporary expulsion. I couldn't believe it, but he showed me a remarkably detailed family tree (yes, with omissions). Heard him comparing notes with another Iranian Jew during Minyan recently — similar story!

I had no idea. Ignorance by others probably should be no surprise. https://www.worldjewishcongress.org/en/news/the-expulsion-of-jews-from-arab-countries-and-iran--an-untold-history
