Seriously looking into Linux for my PC because Microsoft and their overzealous approach to AI is making me nervous as heck.
I'm going to settle on Ubuntu as my familiarity with that Linux distro is high enough; I do need to check for any major changes with CLI commands, reworking of OS features, and the like before switching over. I don't want any surprises.
Over the next few days, I will back-up anything I need in the future digitally.
Just accidentally read a whole mess of replies to a couple bad posts, in agreement with/filling in the thesis of the bad posts, and hoo boy there are some bad takes on here
There are many things about git submodules that are more unpleasant than they should be but one of the most frustrating is that you have to decide early whether to add the submodules as git+ssh URLs or https urls. If you pick ssh URLs, your Windows users using GUIs will not be able to check out the submodules. Whereas if you pick https URLs, your Mac and Linux users using the command line will not be able to check out the submodules. Once you have picked one of these choices, you can't change it
Asking Isreal to agree to a ceasefire but then sending them a billion dollars worth of weapons is like telling your dog to stay off the couch but then slathering peanut butter on the cushions.
@junesim63@lowqualityfacts what nobody is willing to admit is that Biden has already said he won't sign it and Schumer has said it won't come up for a vote.
Nate, #Trump almost murdered #Biden during a #debate last cycle by rolling up on the stage as a biological weapon. Norms and traditions went out the window long ago.
Nate Silver:
You're supposed to be the candidate who stands up for norms and traditions and now you're ducking this tradition?
"The President will not be participating in the Commission of Presidential Debates' announced debates."
@askDNA@evan also the audacity to be like "I posted mundane stuff and it didn't start a shitstorm, but as soon as I post controversial stuff that's threatening to destroy people's livelihoods, everyone is all "hey that's controversial" and people should be nicer to me" is bad faith acting.
@glennf@ernie has a great write up on this in Tedium, and agrees with this point. People think a hydraulic press is that thing they see on youtube crushing stuff to death. Apple's ad thinks that a hydraulic press is a tool that's used to combine parts into a greater whole.
@ernie if you put a plate on the bottom of the milk crate and then bolt that plate to the bottom of the wooden slab, it would be sturdy as hell. Zip tie the crate stacks up and you're in business.
Also unsure how much of ‘I want to move to LA’ is ‘I really can’t deal with SF’ and how much of it is ‘I’ve been feeling skittish about SF ever since two bad racist incidents happened to me there (and no amount of well meaning liberal hugs will make that go away)’
