compost

@compost@regenerate.social

We enjoy creating compost and worm bins on a small scale to produce beautiful gardens.

I would like to invite you to join other enthusiasts who share the same interest in composting at #Compostodon.

Composting is a simple way to take #climateaction that anyone can practice.

Please take note that in this community, we do not tolerate climate change deniers and appropriate measures will be taken if necessary.

This neat little article tells you to keep your compost pile well-balanced.

This is why it is important to have a separate pile of brown or carbon materials to keep your compost healthy.

If we do not change our behaviors we are doomed.

One of the best tools we have to fight the is composting.

Also, quit voting for people who do not care about the , they are not going to fix anything for you when you will be in need.

How is your local weather affecting your season for this year?

Tell us in the comments how it affects you.

Never let a right winger tell you that during a pandemic you're " living in fear" these bloody people are afraid of kids books, their own invisible friends, the sex lives of people they've never met, being able to woo an actual adult, free elections, video games, low budget horror movies, beans, anti-genocide protests, black people stood anywhere except prison or africa, being photographed by anything that doesn't serve oligarchy, and being in small reliable cars.

Those people love to think they are right. There is nothing great with that.

Here it has rained for an entire night and day. The volume of rainwater is a lot more than normal. I will never stop to be amazed by the power of compost. The areas in the garden that have received compost are not flooded.

Everywhere else is very flooded because the compacted native red clay soil can not handle that much water. To better fight flooding events, we have to start spraying compost on the at-risk areas.

This is why at-home composting and local programs are a necessity if we want to protect the land and our goods.

We really need to bring more micro farms to the food chain.

If we put all of our eggs in the same basket of conventional agriculture, when a crisis like this one happens and we have no alternative solution that is a problem.

This is why we advocate all year long to encourage people to grow food if they can do that so that we can have as many alternatives as we can to sustain the food production.

We despise fascism. It's foundation is deception and there is nothing great with that.

Most of the right wing movement prefer to neglect the for the sake of the economy and will not fix anything about this crisis for you.

Because they don't care for you and prefer to lie about it.

Needless to say that fascists are very unwelcome here.

I have never taken a stand on the question of the Middle East and I don't know why I should.

My problem with this conflict is simple, both Palestine and Israel are trashing the Holy Land by not working for peace. That to me is despicable.

Now if you are from both of these states and you want to join your efforts together to compost and make this special land a better place you have my blessing and you are very welcome here.

I have identified what is eating our roses.

It is some bees that I have finally seen on the roses.

It feels better to know that it is just some bees having a snack.

The flowers of the roses are edible and it is a nice treat if you make rose water with the petals.

When you deadhead the dead flowers you can simply add the hips to the compost pile they will add a lot of nutrients to your compost that you can feed to the roses.

The reason why we would love to see more accounts talk about composting on the is simple.

You will be able to focus on your area and explain to local people what they can compost and where they can get their organic matter.

You can create a local community that will help your local area make a better place.

If we started this account it is for a main reason. Make people understand that by choosing to compost they can have a positive impact and do something about the .

So creating a multitude of local accounts that will allow people to organize and make their area a better place is a very powerful thing to do for the .

Have you tried adding charcoal to the pile? It is well known for keeping moisture in the soil.

We live in the south of the USA and it is the kind of issue we do not have experience with. But it would be a great topic for a composting account to talk about what to do on northern latitude.

@urbanmicrofarmer

It is always good to know your local farmer and ask them what medication they use or how they feed their animals.

Here we have many dairy farms around us but we can't be sure about what they use so we do not use their manure.

The best manure in the world is made by composting worms and we exclusively use this kind of manure.

It is yet another evidence, that we used here to be in Zone 7 and now we are in Zone 8.

There is at this point so much evidence that I can't list them all. We are just tired of discussing the evidence and decided to ban deniers from our community.

If people want to do a simple action they can start composting at home, and the cool thing is you don't even need a garden for that.

I have a question for experts in Roses.

The leaves of my roses were fine before I started to deadhead the dying roses.

After doing this I noticed caterpillars ate the leaves.

My question is: does deadheading the roses attract the caterpillars? If yes what should be done about it?

@Hellybootwader

Thank you so much, I am still trying to identify what eats my roses and I do not want to apply any fix before I am sure.

Yes, the holes on the leaves are like tiny circles on a lot of them, because we had a lot of strong rain going on I thought it was just the rain damaging the leaves.

compost,
@compost@regenerate.social avatar

@Hellybootwader my partner says she has seen the caterpillars but the damage on the leaves does not look like it and I have not seen any. I am deadheading the roses at least two times a week.

I am trying to determine what is eating my roses it looks a lot like Japanese Beatles damage but it is not yet their season.

There is no such thing as a perfect garden. Nature does what nature wants.

Working your topsoil by amending it with all sorts of composts and mulches will give you a better chance to have an abundant garden.

Agreed, the best way to use coffee grounds in the garden is to feed this treat to some composting worms.

If you plant a tree every day, in a lifetime you will plant a forest.

Our habits make us, is a very rewarding habit, if you do it every day, in a matter of years you will be able to fix your topsoil, plants, and create abundance.

You will also do your part in putting the carbon back into the and help balance the .

Change always starts with us.

@compost what's your advice on compost tea, and how to handle large volumes of weeds like dandelions?

Last summer I filled a black 24 gallon garbage can with green pulled weeds, topped it with water from the creek behind my house, and let it cook for a few months in the sun. It seemed to work, I put the sludge in my compost bin and used the water in the flower garden, but it was stinky.

Is there a better way to kill the viability of the seeds? Did this even accomplish that?

compost,
@compost@regenerate.social avatar

@educoder

This video is a really good guide on how to achieve a good compost tea.

I would suggest composting your dandelions, of course not with the seeds. And use the result in a compost tea.
