@compost@regenerate.social

We enjoy creating compost and worm bins on a small scale to produce beautiful gardens.

I would like to invite you to join other enthusiasts who share the same interest in composting at #Compostodon.

Composting is a simple way to take #climateaction that anyone can practice.

Please take note that in this community, we do not tolerate climate change deniers and appropriate measures will be taken if necessary.

If you think having the body of a man makes you a man, then you have absolutely no clue what it feels like to wake up every day in a body that does not match who you are.

I was raised as a man I was asked to conform and tried to conform. The only thing it has achieved is depression and that feeling of having to perform a daily lie to satisfy others.

I am way too old to worry about what others may think of me, and way too old to apologize to anyone for being myself. It took me more than 30 long years to unpack all of this, so if all you have to say is you have the body of a man that is who you are...

Please do me a favor and keep your mouth shut because you have no idea what you are talking about. And does any of this make me less relevant to talk about the subject of this account?

This is who I am and part of my journey to master the art of composting. If I had to make an analogy it would be a little bit like saying hey the pile stinks bad, well never mind put it on the soil anyway.

It is never good to assume things on a topic you have not experienced before.

@alex_galt

The truth is, if you want to talk about a subject like composting, you have to be inclusive, you have to be open-minded, and you have to develop the social skills to create a community and explain to others that their actions can make a difference.

Life has not always been kind to me and adversity has taught me one thing, if I want to achieve my goals in life it will be without the help of a lot of people.

If I had to earn money every time I had to read horrors about trans people I would be rich, and to be successful in life, I have to not end up like those who think they are righteous and in the name of it can be nasty and entitled.

SYDNEY, April 26, 2024: Composting’s role in the fight against climate change will be in focus during International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW), to be held from May 5-11 in Australia. Amid the increasing frequency of extreme weather events such as flooding, droughts or bushfires, composting offers a practical, hands-on response to climate change mitigation where every household can join the global effort. “As a community we can all contribute to a healthy planet by keeping food scraps away from landfill and one of the ways is through composting,” says Chris Rochfort, CEO of the Centre for Organic Research & Education (CORE). “Composting can help reduce landfill methane emissions and restoring soil health, which will help build resilience to climate change, reduce reliance on synthetic fertilisers, and sequester carbon by removing it from the atmosphere.” Composting can benefit the climate in many ways.

Thank you for posting this, it is what our account is trying to address to the people of Mastodon to make them understand that by doing this simple action, they can make a difference.

When you live in a red neighborhood among people who complain a lot about "protecting the kids"

Also, you can't help but notice that those people can't drive slowly into their community where kids often play or walk.

We have to explain to a toddler that the cars will not stop for him and that he can be badly hurt.

There is nothing on this planet more despicable than those who believe they are right when all they do is create hell for others.

Pride is a hell of a sin.

This little video from the channel Primitive Technology, one of my favorites, is an amazing reminder of why we should not use too much ash on clay-dominant soil.

Clay plus ahs is the recipe for cement. It will compact your soil if you put too much of it.

Demonstration... I am so glad someone decided to make a video about this.

are so fascinating that I have decided to let a few grow in the gardens.

They have so many benefits and uses that I could not list them all. My favorites are to make tea with the flowers and to eat the leaves in salads.

You can compost this plant as long as it has not gone to seed. It will supercharge your pile with a lot of nutrients.

Our habits can make us or destroy us.

If we chose to do nothing about we can be pretty sure about the outcome.

But, if we act and create habits that can help the environment, we can make a difference.

If we decide to plant a tree every day, we can grow a forest in a lifetime.

Composting is a simple habit that you can do daily that will help reduce the problems created by our landfills.

Does anyone have experience with processing?
We're weighing the pros and cons of digestion and typical turn-heavy aerobic . Also thinking about a combination of the two but going from anaerobic to aerobic processing could create more labor.

If I had to implement such a system, I would search for solutions that involve composting worms.

Feeling miserable because of allergies.

I was not always suffering from those issues as I grew up on a farm and used to help with the hay work in the summer.

So the fact that I am now experiencing hayfever symptoms is the consequence of .

Despite taking a powerful allergy medicine it is still not safe to go outside for me.

This is why when we talk to you so often about the on this account, it is not because we are being greenwashed.

It is because it is affecting my health and our in a significant way.

It is also why those who would like to deny the climate issues are very unwelcome on this community, I could not give less of a damn about their opinions.

A composting project is something very forgiving.

It will teach you that when you focus your attention on your piles and learn from your own mistakes, there is only one person responsible for them. You can't blame anyone else unless it is a collaborative project.

Two of the biggest mistakes I used to make and that I have learned to master are:

  • A compost pile needs much water to be processed fast and well. I used not to pay attention to the humidity in the pile, which was a mistake.
  • Always chop finely the content of your pile. Not doing this is why the pile takes so long to decompose. If you want to harvest a pile in 3 months or so, chop the content as small as you can.
compost,
@compost@regenerate.social avatar

@MrPDaniel

We have to turn the pile if it is a hot compost pile, the goal is to introduce the maximum oxygen to increase the biological activity to raise the temperature. Once you have reached that temperature, it pasteurizes the pile and kills seeds of weeds or pathogens.

What I am doing is a cold composting process where it is the biology into the pile that does this job turning job for you. So you have to make sure that there are no weeds or pathogens in the pile. Once the biology is active you should not have to turn it more than once a week.

I am that neighbor who picks up the trash on the side of the roads of the neighborhood.

If your streets are clean, it is not because people are civilized, it is because your neighbors are concerned for the safety of their kids who wonder what this trash is all about.

If I could make money out of this I would be rich by now.

This year I am experimenting with a method of composting that so far is being so productive that I am going soon enough to have all my needs covered.

Instead of doing a vertical system of piles, I have developed a horizontal system of edges.

I am creating edges so that I can feed at the start of an edge, move the digested compost to the middle, and store the finished compost at the end of the edge. It also is easy to cover it with a tarp.

This keeps the flow going and allows me to harvest my compost more often.

Since the beginning of the year, I have harvested several buckets of compost.

For years I had to hear people explain to me that they didn't "believe" in climate change.

It is no longer an acceptable discussion for me, especially when I have to listen to people who think they are smart to tell me that this is all nonsense.

Climate inaction is a crime against humanity end of discussion.

compost, to climate
@compost@regenerate.social avatar

There is no such thing as to "believe" in climate change. It has nothing to do with beliefs, it is not a theory...

It is real, it is measurable and if you observe the facts you can easily tell that the climate around you is changing.

I don't believe that climate change is real, I have experienced the changing in our gardens and it has affected my health.

At the end of the day, your beliefs are very irrelevant to the situation, what matter is what are you going to do about it?

compost,

People used to laugh at me when I explained that we never left the Middle Ages...

The truth is we live in very dark times.

compost,
@compost@regenerate.social avatar

@EverydayMoggie

The times we live in are very dark because if somehow we have more comfort than previous era, the vanity of people leads them to deny the most basic truth.

It would take very smart people to elaborate a conspiracy like climate change, and establish a worldwide plan.

The truth is they don't know what they are doing, they fucked up the planet, probably not entirely on purpose, and they don't know how to fix it and even if they did, their greed is too strong to not be tempted to make money over this crisis.

We can reverse the climate crisis they just don't want to do it.

Is there a exchange community or group on Mastodon?

I have some chives and green onions that are going to seeds and I will have more seeds than I need.

Of course, there is our local free seeds and plants library but I would prefer to use mastodon as my main seeds resource.

I love watching yard transformation videos. I have seen quite a few yards in our area go pretty bad like that and I understand that there is a niche for YouTubers to work on.

As I said those yards are not uncommon simply because some people can't afford to maintain them anymore, either because of health or lack of money.

The cool thing with those yards is that you can be sure that they are not being contaminated by any chemicals. At the end of the day, it is some really good organic matter that you can get for free to start some big compost piles.
