@compost what's your advice on compost tea, and how to handle large volumes of weeds like dandelions?

Last summer I filled a black 24 gallon garbage can with green pulled weeds, topped it with water from the creek behind my house, and let it cook for a few months in the sun. It seemed to work, I put the sludge in my compost bin and used the water in the flower garden, but it was stinky.

Is there a better way to kill the viability of the seeds? Did this even accomplish that?

Why is it that the people who brag about being "self-made" aren't?

If you turned out successful odds are you had help, a lot of it, and a good amount of luck on top of that. Imagine being so self absorbed that you don't give credit where credit is due.

@RickiTarr I have little formal education in my profession, but I'm not self taught, I'm self learned. I've had thousands of teachers, all of whom took some time to share their knowledge, mostly for free.

@shollyethan it's a little known feature, but zip captions is fully able to be self hosted. In fact, that's where our testing/QA lives (in my basement!) We also have plans for self hosting only the recognition feature, although that's about 4 features down the roadmap.

If you don't want to self host, the production version is free (and free of ads and trackers too).

@ajroach42 one of my favourite things to play with is broken tech. If I fix it, hooray, free stuff! If I don't, well, it was already busted, so I'll just take it apart, toss the metal and plastic in the recycling bin, and bring the components to the tech recycler.

I have so much old, janky stuff around that still kinda works, and it makes a great sandbox to play in.

Well, it finally happened. After getting that threatening warning from Google about getting blocked because I'm using an ad blocker on my browser when I watch YouTube, I finally gave in.

I'm gonna be giving 20 bucks a month to food banks Canada, and I'm gonna be watching YouTube through piped.video or other proxies to block the ads.

I guess they won?

PSA: If you see a woman respond to a troll, it is never--ever--helpful to respond to her with something along the lines of "just ignore them."

She's probably ignoring 100 (or more) for every 1 she chooses to respond to. She knows that the path of least resistance is to ignore the troll & move on. She doesn't need you to inform her of that option.

A response is a conscious decision. You are not helping when you criticize (because that's what this is) that decision.
