I had my Covid booster about 2.5 weeks ago. The only downside was that amid disturbed sleep, I dislocated my shoulder. I'm getting physical therapy and NOW I'm less likely than ever to EVER GET COVID. Gonna gloat it up until it happens...
@danielpunkass I think vaccines are up there with humanity’s greatest achievements. It’s sad/amusing when anti-pharma conspiracists say disease cures are suppressed so they can make money treating the symptoms, yet vaccines (i.e., preemptive cures) are also somehow a depraved cash-grab.
Question! Is there a Mastodon app that lets you pre-write a few messages in a chain, and then post them all at once? I’m so used to doing that on Twitter for bigger ideas, and I don’t want to have to rapidly reply to my own message to then type the second part. Or, is that like philosophically not good on here?
@cabel@outadoc I know that @ivory does the “read more” thing and I assume many, but not all, clients do too. I was a bit flippant in my reply. I think you can try whatever you think is best and listen if there’s any kind of consensus pushback. We’re all just doing our best.
If you can drop a single device in a lake and lose your credential, it’s not a passkey. Passkeys are backed up and synced across your devices to deliver a great and safe user experience, while also eliminating phishing.
@tbroyer@rmondello Does that not weaken the security? Feel free to point me to a good explainer video or something… I think the complexity of passkeys may put off normal people from switching to them. (I'm speaking as someone who has started transitioning to them because they seem better than passwords, even if I don't completely understand the mechanisms.)
@mathowie I’d expect nothing less from Minnesota, which is my absolutely favorite state that I don’t know anything about besides what I learned from watching Mystery Science Theater 3000.
@mathowie Oh, wow. I didn't realize whoever wins the election will be president during that milestone. Even if we still exist, having Trump preside over that would be the definition of an “inauspicious occasion”, and I don't even know what that phrase means.
I recall several months ago someone here talking about building a new #bookmarking/link collecting app/platform à la Pinboard. Did that ever go anywhere? Or does anyone have any recs? I just saw @omnivore is a thing. Would that be good for this? (I currently use @instapaper for read-later.) Help!
FYI @jillian, you’re the one who just told me about Omnivore. Can you tell me why you’re switching to it? No pressure, but I need your top 3 reasons in the next 10 minutes.
I love having an old radio nerd in my family, whenever I spot a Philco at a garage sale I can text him a photo and get an answer back in seconds “oh that’s a mid-40s chairside modern maple model, the speaker alone is worth 10x their asking price and is easy to fix/refurb, GET IT”
@mathowie Those old radios are so cool-looking. I like to listen to old time radio shows via the internet, so I bought a circa 1938 RCA model off eBay, yanked out the tubes, and put a little Bluetooth speaker inside. All things considered, it’s a relatively inexpensive time machine.
@protecttruth I agree media can do a better job of disclaiming such things, but this particular framing isn’t so insidious. One could argue specific word choice, but climate activism is expressly the guy’s main gig: https://www.tomsteyer.com.
May 2024 is a very reasonable, perhaps a bit fast, trial date for Trump’s case. Don’t let people who don’t know what they are talking about tell you otherwise.
@Popehat Don't let “people who don't know what they are talking about" tell me bullshit? How dare you attack the very foundational purpose of the internet.
Mastodon is great, the only thing I miss on this app is quote posts. I know they have a bad rap bc of Twitter, but every major social network has this functionality for a reason (Tumblr, LinkedIn, Facebook, IG). As a journalist, I’d love to add commentary and amplify great info, build on ppl’s points, etc. You just can’t do that the same wait with replies! Is there any chance we might get them on here?
@taylorlorenz The percentage of wrong and/or irrelevant answers to this question is impressive. The answer, for anyone wondering, is that they are officially planned but there’s no ETA. https://joinmastodon.org/roadmap
