Well, this is disturbing.

"Today [2018] 40 percent of millennials are parents, and, as parents, many hold neotraditionalist views of gender. Among millennial men without children, 35 percent believe women should 'take care of the home and children,' a nine-point increase above GenXers and a fourteen-point jump above men older than forty-five.

"...It should come as no surprise that millennial women report feeling more constrained by gender stereotypes...

A person I used to be good friends with and considered highly intelligent is now a Musk supporter who believes that everyone should be able to say everything they want in all public forums without repercussions and considers wrong.

I truly cannot even.

I don't know if this individual changed, or if they simply masked their true beliefs for a long time, or if I just used to be too naive to recognize them for who they are.

Life comes at you hard and fast, y'all.

“We want no teachers who say there are two sides to every question.”

That was the fascist mindset in 1970s USA, and it's the mindset of the fascists in 2020s USA.

Here's a truth for you -- especially if you haven't hit your 40s yet, maybe not even your 30s.

The truth is this:

Nobody knows what the fuck they're doing.
If someone seems like they have their shit together, either they are presenting you with a completely false front, or they are in a season of The Total Occasional Fluke of Everything Apparently Going Right and Coming Together.

But what are we really doing? Nobody knows. WE'RE ALL JUST DOING WHAT WE CAN WITH THE TOOLS WE HAVE AT THE TIME.

Also pondering the #fundamentalist-leaning aspect of my #Christian upbringing.

When you take the lyrics "would he devote that Sacred Head for such a worm as I?" into your very core as a 5-year-old, it takes A LOT to get shut of that unsightly baggage as an adult.

Even "Amazing Grace": "...how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me...."

Really? I was a child. A baby.

A wretch?

Reprobate & miscreant are some of the synonyms. I was to learn those as well.

I don't know how it is in the rest of the country right now. But in Oklahoma City, apparently all new vehicles must be either white, black, or one of those gross matte boujee gray or tan weird colors.

In related news, today I saw a white Tesla with super dark tinted windows and a license plate that read "WHTWOLF" and the only thing I could think was, "Geralt of Rivia would NEVER."

I debated posting this pic. I decided not to. I decided to. I opened up my photo editing app to make my hips look slimmer, my stomach less plump, and my forehead less wrinkled. I got disgusted with myself, closed the photo editor, and decided not to post the pic.

Then, I thought, "Fuck it."

So here we are. The pic that has only been edited to darken the corners of the image and brighten the whites of my eyes. Shape-wise and size-wise, this is me.

Below in-thread I'll share something for the spot-on description of Rosalynn Carter, whose husband is a former US-president.

But I want to note that lumping Biden's presidency in with the shitshow that was Trump's is (A) grossly unjust, as well as (B) damaging to democracy.

(A) Yes, Biden has screwed up a lot of things and is continuing to do so. But LOOK AT WHAT HE HAD TO FOLLOW. I truly believe the man is playing the best hand he can with the cards his cruel, buffoonish, and...

Just updated my blog's "About" page (courtcan.com) & thought I'd share here as well, since I'm a newbie.

Hi! I'm Courtney.

My pronouns are she/her.

I am the wife of Ed, often referred to as "the husband."

I am the mama of a beautiful little girl known here as "CM," "the/my kid," or "[age]yo" (year-old).

I am the cat-mommy of Laddi (Galadriel) and Elli (Elanor).

By passport, I am an American; but I grew up in Germany, so culturally I'm a mutt (aka Third Culture Kid).

I didn't want to butt in on someone else's thread (see previous reposts), but I wanted to say this so will say it here:

Everything--but EVERYTHING--humans do and say is political. Everything. Every human.

Why? Because everything every human does & says relates to and determines how we all live together as humans in this world.

"Politics" comes from the Greek word "polis" = city-state. The community structure. The arrangements that determine how we all live together in community.

I've been awake for who knows how long. Since 2 hours before my alarm is set to go off, anyway. So, since I'm unwillingly awake, here's something further about , the tending-fundamentalist denomination I grew up in. Something I found out yesterday about the eldership of one of the local congregations.

A eldership, if you don't already know, is a group of men selected by the congregation to lead and make decisions for the congregation.

It's so depressing and discouraging when you try to get your art out into the world but you're blocked by soulless capitalistic automated systems that won't tell you what you're doing wrong but require you to fix what's wrong before they'll remove the block.

"Negativity is part of life. Unfortunately, social media is increasingly becoming toxic, and I think that it infects all of us if we stay there too long. Just like if you stay in a gas leak too long, you're gonna die. It's not like you're going to die being on social media, but I think you'll be changed."

--Roxane Gay

This is 100% accurate.

The fediverse has a chance to be different. I hope we take it.

An 8th-grader called my 5th-grade daughter "dick" today because she accidentally bumped into him.

"Mama, this is the first time somebody has ever called me an inappropriate word. It hurts."

Is it illegal for a 46-year-old woman to grab a 14yo boy by the ear and yell at him in front of his friends?

Also, why the hell don't people teach their kids better?
