Q: OK fine! There's a lot of racism! But we can't do anything about it! You can't change hearts and minds! I've flipped from denial to helplessness! Talking about racism depressed me and makes me feel bad, because we can't do anything about it! So, can you stop talking about it?

A: No, we won't stop talking about it. Yes, we can do something about it. Let's look at one specific example of a reduction in racism, driven by racists themselves! 🙂🙃

Why?

Canada is signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child :
https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/national-child-day/united-nations-convention-rights-of-the-child.html

In which Art. 13, 14 & 16 say:

▪ Children have the right to share freely with others what they learn, think & feel … unless it harms others

▪ Children can choose their own thoughts, opinions & religion…

▪ Every child has the right to privacy
https://www.unicef.org/child-rights-convention/convention-text-childrens-version

AB legislation contravening this convention is immoral & violent

Waiting for the results of my MRI, but my experience suggests this is true in my case.

Fortunately, the impact on my job is minimal. But not everyone experiencing post-covid brain fog is so lucky. (Are you counting on being a lucky one?)

Mask up in public, folks.
If not for yourself, then for everyone's children.

This was my initial reaction, too:

"In what universe is Donald vibrant, productive or capable?? And this statement wasn’t even tongue-in-cheek. Stewart was making a straight-up comparison.

There are no excuses here. Stewart knows who Donald is."

These past 3 years, I've made some difficult choices. The hardest ones are always important choices between things that are both good -- or both bad.

But: when I clearly lay out what I value, the decision-making is easier.

I learned as a coach: when choices align with what matters to me I sleep well, I don't second-guess myself. (I used to be a worrier! It's astonishing, now that I think about it)

I invite you to name what makes your life great.

👀 New book from @Teri_Kanefield !

A Firehose of Falsehood breaks down the mechanisms of the attack on democracy into its component parts with fierce clarity and narrative power. A Firehood of Falsehood is so lucidly written and analytically acute, that it will be treasured by readers from young adults to scholars in the field.

Henry 'Box' Brown was a celebrated Black abolitionist and magician. In 1849, he famously escaped slavery by “mailing himself to freedom” in a 3 foot long box (by rail, steamboat and wagon 😨) to abolitionists in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Fearing re-enslavement, he moved to England, & spent the last decade of his life in Toronto. 😢

Now, in historic Old Toronto,
Henry Box Brown Lane comemmorates him.

What do you really want? 🤔

Sometimes a client struggles to meet conflicting expectations. I'll say: just blurt out what you really want. (It's a fun moment; I have no idea what they'll say!)

▪ The tired lawyer really want to open a bakery!

▪ The angry tester wants to shout You betrayed my trust!

▪ The bored creative wants to do work that makes the world safer for their children.

Say what you want.

Retail food profits in have more than doubled:
▪ 2019: $2.4B net income
▪ 2023: > $6B

🧐 The grocery chains were called to Ottawa to explain…

Loblaws, Metro, Sobey:
😱 "Profiteering? No, no, no!"

But food inflation has been higher than the general rate of inflation, & Cdns are buying fewer groceries (honestly, I don't know how some of my neighbours manage.)

So what explains these record profits?

A new Fifth Estate investigation:

deborahh,

@dan613 I'm just at the 20:00 timestamp in the report: apparently we subsidise far north grocers directly (to keep food affordable) and expect (hope?) they will play fair with pricing.

Watchdogs say they don't. 😢

Wtf? Where's the accountability on this subsidy? 🙁 The biggest, Northwest Company, wasn't even included in the government's grocery profit hearings.
