89,000 words into a 100,000 word manuscript and I've just hit the climax.

(Signs there's a climax happening: the Queen is glowing violet and shrivelling, Nyarlathotep has gone to the mattresses, and Bob has just stumbled across a mass human sacrifice in progress in Buckingham Palace …)

SOMETIMES I love my job.

diegopappalardo,

@cstross okay okay, you got me at "mass human sacrifice in Buckingham Palace".
Is Rishi Sunak somehow involved in it? 😁

@SherBeareth @mikemathia wtf ??? If one day I'm in the US and bored, I'll just sit in front of a Walmart with a few beers.

Also, how is it possible to know how to use a colon but not spell "sweetie" correctly?

diegopappalardo,

@fkamiah17 outside of the USA, we foreigners keep on reading this stuff... and end up believing the Farrelly Brothers were just filming everyday life in America!

Ok, to be fair, we also have quite a collection of dumbies in Europe.

The craziness involving OpenAI is making the AI industry appear to the world at large as being even less organized than the GOP.

diegopappalardo,

@lauren wow that's some serious accusations you're making! It's not like the AI companies ever... ever... eeeh actually you're probably right.

"Individualism" is the entire problem. They taught you that to keep you from uniting.

diegopappalardo,

@StillIRise1963 so true! Divide and conquer...

My mind: "this is patently ridiculous"
My subconscious: "one moment, I think we can work with this"

diegopappalardo,

@codinghorror whaaa ?
...
I mean honestly, it's exhausting just to realize that one or more people spent time coding and debugging this.
Crazies or geniuses? Can't make up my mind...

@HelenG théâtres the whole problem, there: I've come to believe that many minds are just "out of order" for the moment being. How did we get there, I wonder...

Musk is beating his new toy to pieces!

Musk destroyed all that’: Twitter’s business is flailing after a year of Elon

Advertisers are spending less, regulators are circling, staff is at less than 50% of what it used to be and user numbers are down
    #x

    https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/oct/27/elon-musk-x-twitter-takeover-revenue-users-advertising

    diegopappalardo,

@Free_Press it doesn't make sense, right? But sometimes I wonder: what if that was on purpose? What if his objective has always been to destroy Twitter?
As problematic as Twitter was even before Elon bought it, it was a way to pass information, which often would not put him and other cockroaches of his kind in a good light. These guys were pretty safe until the advent of social networks, so maybe killing Twitter is a victory for them...
    Just a thought.

🟦 The UK Government is maintaining a policy from the short-lived Truss administration that would see the cap on bankers’ bonuses scrapped at the end of the month.

    diegopappalardo,

@LukaszOlejnik you mention an npm package. Wouldn't be the first time. But did you have any confirmation that it was an npm package this time? Any web link that confirms this?
