Germany’s AfD is so extreme it was kicked out of the far-right grouping in the European Parliament last month, but Elon Musk thinks their policies “don’t sound extremist.” That’s because he’s also a fascist.

@parismarx First thought on skimming this was well he just got a whole fuck ton of people to read up on their policies.
His post feels calculated to me and even more dangerous than just agreeing with them.
The question and "Maybe I'm missing something" are engagement-driving language and he frames it as they're not extremist.

I love when the world tells older women they are becoming irrelevant and invisible, and they're just like, Good, now I can do what I want, and no one will bother me.

emmaaum,

@RickiTarr i like this in theory but the long isolation (i'm also disabled by chronic illness, so extra irrelevant and doubly invisible) is weighing on me.

i like that others are making the most of it :)

Japanese Film Festival Online 2024 will be 5th-19th June (starts & ends noon JST so effectively the 18th for UK)
Last year's was really good so I'm maybe just a wee bit excited. It's a great opportunity to see Japanese films which can be hard to find.
I know all of you have lives and are busy but I can post about those I watch to help you pick one or two Please let me know if you are interested as it's better for me to save my energy than shout into the void.

News Agents podcast has an interview from today with a man who started out saying I'm not racist but... (yeah right) and specified Jews and Muslims as the immigrants he wants rid of.

Jews are NOT trying to get into the UK in any significant numbers.
2021/22 Census has 277,613 Jews in the UK, 0.4% of the population.
277,613 Jews and the racists are naming us as people to get rid of. We are a TINY minority.

Father of the Milky Way Railroad

Beautiful, poetic melodrama depicting a romanticised and idealised life of an idealistic young man who, after his death, became one of Japan's most loved poets and writers.
Now to read some of his writings while this is still fresh in my mind.

The Lone Ume Tree

About acceptance of difference and problems caused by those quick to judge. Cho-san has both learning disabilities and autism, needs his routines and works in a supported facility. He also has a great mum and difficult neighbours.

Glad I watched it during the afternoon :) Got a jump scare from the sound, I was using headphones and it was Right There 😂
The ending brought it together and made it extra creepy.

If you'll be watching some of , what's caught your eye from their offerings? Have you picked one to see first?

I'm going to start with The Lines That Define Me (because I've been waiting for more Japanese coming of age films since the last festival) for morning-ish and maybe The Broken Mariko for afternoon-ish as that will be heavy I think so better to watch early in my binge.

Apologies for the change in the weather. It is clearly my fault as two weeks ago I thought it seemed like we might indeed have a warm summer and ordered tomato plants.
They arrived yesterday as did two hail storms.

Fannish friends - I'm putting together one of those What was your favourite X, Y, Z calendar poll type thing to encourage engagement in my dreamwidth community next month.
Anyone want to help me improve it? I'm trying to steer away from the usual cliches.
It might be easier to do this on dreamwidth than fedi because of length, though I could turn it into graphics if need be.

I'm 4 episodes in and there's no violence, no dramatic moments and no traumatic experiences.

i am craving a certain flavour of intelligent Thai nonsense. i am also too fatigued right now to follow intelligent Thai nonsense. this is a problem.

this is about comedy series btw and nonsense is a compliment.

i've seen three films in which involve arts and artists - The Lines that Define Me (sumi-e ink painting), Single8 (1978-era amateur film making) and Father of the Milky Way Railroad (idealised biography of an idealistic young man who, after his death, became one of Japan's most loved writers and poets) - and in every one, cinematography and story of the films themselves are shaped by the art form and style depicted.
Am more interested in the anime business one now.

film i watched last evening had animations which were just below my pre-seizure brain popcorn threshold. It wasn't the easiest film to follow either and it left me worn out.
Brain is extra foggy this morning. Might be weather but maybe the animations did more damage than i realised.
(So many GPs - you have this because you think you have this. So many times me - looks like that was ok. whew. Reality - lol no whomp.)
