@mammoth has released the latest version of their #Mastodon app, Mammoth 2. With it comes "Smart Lists", news curation and personalised suggestions for accounts to follow.
Have questions about #PeerTube or want to know more about the team, and where the project is headed?
Next week there will be an Ask Me Anything with the @peertube team, streamed live directly on PeerTube!
I'll be the one to ask the questions to the team. You can already ask your questions right now, use the #PeerTubeAMA hashtag with your question to get them answered live on stream.
The stream will be Wednesday, Dec. 13th, 6-8 pm (CET)
New: on Mostr, the bridge between #nostr and the #fediverse, that has just gotten an upgrade.
With the bridge, connections between the two networks become easier, and the borders of what the fediverse is become fuzzier. But not everyone might be interested in the connection, however.
If you want to receive these updates during the week directly into your fediverse feed, you can follow me at @LaurensHof. The WordPress blog has been connected to the fediverse for a while now, but I'm starting to make more active use of it.
All of these shorter articles will also be boosted from this account to make things even easier, so they'll just show up in your microblogging client of choice.
@fediversereport After reading this report, I'm concerned about how Bluesky will handle fake accounts (once they get federated). How does Mastodon handle fake accounts?
@spudart Mastodon does not have any system in place to warn against fake accounts. Most servers either ban them, or defederate from servers who do not ban impersonator accounts
that all sounds grand. my hope is that the instance I’m on will eventually increase the character limit.
many of my toots feel like I’m trying trying to squeeze them down to birdsite levels. wouldn’t be so bad if I knew how to do multiple toot threads that worked well. though I’m most likely missing something there. I try not to blame the software when it may well be my aging brain.
With the excellent news that all accounts on WordPress.com can now connect with the fediverse, it seems like a good moment to mention that Fediverse Report has had this feature enabled for a while as well.
You can follow me directly at @LaurensHof to see all the blog posts directly in your fediverse feeds.
I've also started a personal blog about decentralised social networks more broadly, with the ActivityPub plugin enabled. You can follow me there at @laurenshof
Enabling a fediverse connection on your WordPress blog allows for an interesting short-ish form of writing:
Space for your own thoughts and arguments, moving beyond just a hot take
Keeping it slightly limited so it fits well within the structure of microblogging
#mastodon releases their annual report for 2022, providing an interesting insight in their financials, as well as what they accomplished last year. The amount of work they managed with the means they have is absolutely impressive.
Work on the closed beta for mozilla.social server continues, with some interesting glimpses of their plans.
Bluesky is undergoing a period of significant growth: mid September saw the network hitting 1 million accounts, and another 400k in the four weeks since.
Bluesky announced that the architecture for federation is now ready, and said they will start (internal) federation in the next few weeks. They will start federation with new servers (PDS) that are run by the Bluesky team, with open federation coming later.
