@fediversereport@fediversenews@fediverse Awesome for Android users and Lemmy!
For iOS users, Memmy is great and evolving fast (it’s in beta so only available through TestFlight for now).
A group of over 40 European organisations have recently released a statement calling for the EU to set up a European Public Digital Infrastructure Fund.
They call for this fund to support Digital Public Spaces, that are, among other things, based in FOSS, and ensure privacy by design. The statement gives three examples: #Mastodon, #PeerTube and #ActivityPub, stating that they would benefit from such a fund to further flourish.
The @EU_Commission has been supporting the fediverse for a while via @EC_NGI. This picture gives an idea of all the projects that have gotten funding via NGI.
The admin for misskey.io has put out a call for people to apps for Misskey that work with both iOS and Android. They offer a bounty of 800k Yen (~€ 5350) per person for building these apps.
The Japanese #fediverse community is growing rapidly, mainly using Misskey. Misskey.io is now by far the busiest server on the fediverse, publishing twice the amount of posts/month that mastodon.social does (while m.s. has 6x more users!)

Major news outlets have taken the story about the New York transit organisation MTA leaving (and rejoining) Twitter as a way to talk about it's API policy. But it got me curious, what is happening on the #fediverse around transit notifications?
Introducing Fediverse 201, a new series in which I take a deeper dive in all the other cool products and services on the fediverse that go beyond microblogging, and talk to the creators about their product.
In this first edition: Owncast!
#owncast is a free and open source live video streaming server, that can also connect to the rest of the #fediverse in a variety of ways.
@owncast@fediversereport@gabek Can Owncast handle streaming to hundreds or thousands of people simultaneously‽ Or conduct multiple people in a video streaming to thousands of viewers online‽ Or tens of thousands across multiple devices & apps‽ (web, iPhone, Android, iPad, etcetera).
I ask as there is a need for an affordable decentralized solution for this, & all of the options are pricy for most people.
Makes me happy when I post about a tool ( https://audon.space ), people talk about ways it it could be even more helpful for the blind community, and the dev ships those features pretty much immediately.
I went there, I signed in, I checked the link that said Learn More (empty page) I even opened a 'room' but I still don't know what audon.space is, what it does, or what it's for.
Is this a microphone-only chat room, like a conference call? I was hoping it might allow mixing in prepared audio with live, like doing a live-remote performance or a simple conference panel — is it primarily expecting to be used from the desktop?
There are quite a few tools that help you find interesting accounts to follow. I wrote about how the space has evolved, and these tools have build upon each other. Here's an overview of some of them:
https://fedifollows.fedified.com/ by @DataDrivenMD A curated list with the accounts separated by ~20 topics. Allows 1-click follow, and prioritizes accounts by activity. A good option for new users that want to get started.
The directory on https://fediverse.info/explore/people allows everyone to sign up by adding hashtags to their profile, and using the #fedi22 tag to opt-in. Great to use if you are looking for a specific topic.
https://truesciphi.org/ is a curated list dedicated to science, philosophy and mathematics. These are fairly large lists, and great if you want to find scientists in specific fields.
https://follows.spreadmastodon.org/ by @spreadmastodon has a curated list with a 1-click follow. This is specifically designed to streamline the process as much as possible and get new users up and running with interesting content in their feed.
Finally, https://findmyfriends.online/ is a way to find your Mastodon friends on PixelFed. It looks at your Mastodon follows, and tries to match those to PixelFed account. Great to get your PixelFed account started.
