I'm trying to write about game development here, but sometimes I just can't keep quiet about what's happening in Ukraine. Today, Kyiv is still quiet at night...

I can't sleep, my friends from Odessa are writing terrible things, they are being bombarded with rockets. Lots of explosions. Apparently, they are trying to destroy grain stocks

In addition to the deaths of people from the war in Ukraine, there is a huge probability that people will die due to hunger in other countries.

@maxim Thank you! When there is public discussion in Germany on how to support Ukraine, there are basically 2 camps: the larger one, that the government is in also, is "military aid first, negotiations won't come otherwise". The smaller wants diplomacy first somehow (though I can't see how that'd work) and claims the military aid sort of 'forces' Ukrainians to fight. How do you and your friends see that? Is military aid welcome or would you rather see some diplomatic effort first?

@maxim the reason I ask: I feel the 'diplomacy first' people seem quite often (at least here in Germany) to have an unpleasant russia friendly agenda on their mind than actually being supportive of Ukraine's defense efforts. So I wonder how someone actually affected views this.

@maxim I would obviously love to go have some kind of talks, war over, Ukraine whole again. But I feel that invading lunatic of a russian president won't understand anything but force. Yet I feel it's so unfair to just leave the fighting to Ukrainians.

@maxim I feel stupid to have asked... I really hope there will be less stalling and making excuses when it comes to delivering the right weapons to Ukraine that you guys ask for and need. And ramp up the embargoes and sanctions more too.

Is it just my imagination or is it harder to get youTube to save a list of queued up videos to play?

When I do watch youTube I like to select what I want to watch, put it in the ideal order, check that all the ad blockers are working then watch.

But my lists keep getting randomly erased. Which causes me to just not watch anything and do something else.

I've always suspected that youTube hates people who select and queue videos almost as much as adblocking watchers... have they come for us?

@futurebird I you watch on an Android device, I can recommend the NewPipe app. Third party, ad free, also on fdroid app store. Arranging playlists works well there, but no syncing between devices afaik.

@grob @KleineMaulwurf Not quite. First of all, Arrhenius was off by a factor of two in his estimate of climate sensitivity. Secondly, he corrected the numbers (too far) later. Thirdly, he was convinced that this warming would take hundreds of years and would actually be beneficial (reasonable from his perspective at the beginning of the 20th century).

However: it was later discovered that the oceans take up most of the emitted CO2. It took until the 1960s to see that this is not enough.

@heiseautos ich vermute ja mal, dass Biokraftstoffe eher nicht zur Emissionsreduktion taugen, wenn sie extra angebaut werden müssen, ähnlich wie auch Heizen mit Holz nicht umweltfreundlich skaliert. Hab ich von @W_Lucht gelernt. Und das bisschen Frittierfettreste und so Zeug reicht sowieso nicht für die Menge an km, die wir abspulen. Lieber gleich Elektro oder ganz vom Auto weg.

This is already slightly more than Nov and Dec waves' peaks. And it is still going up.

What I find particularly important is that it seems like a lot of this is not new accounts, but people returning to accounts created before and then left unused.

I expect this to be a more resilient kind of growth. Less of a drop after it peaks.

@rysiek I am also a returner. When I first created my account (not in one of the Twitter waves), I did not really use it much at first. After some time I also tried Twitter and decided I like Fedi better, returned and stayed. :fediverse: :blobcatbigfan:

This is a question about game streamers. Every year there are more and more streamers. My subjective opinion is that this only makes the video game market worse. Especially indie games.

⭐ Please write why you don't watch streamers and if you watch streamers, it is even more interesting - why, which ones? How old are you?

@maxim it's a very rare "sometimes". As I don't play as much anymore, I use streams for a quick look at gameplay before buying. Maybe an hour a year and not live. Maybe shoulda ticked "don't watch"...

@maxim so I basically use it to rule out crap games. I do not "buy" because of streams, but "don't buy". Indie games not being streamed is not something that keeps me personally from buying them. If there is no stream, oh well.

@maxim I don't like comments on the streams, really. I look for the gameplay in action and try to judge, whether I would enjoy that. Now you say it, I do fast forward a bit. To see if there's variety I guess? Also whether I like the atmo is way easier to judge from video+sound than just screenshots.

Boss Fight 📌

I think the most difficult is the boss fight. Different phases of the boss, waves of enemies, missile strikes, two floors, even a puzzle... and behind all this hundreds of parameters are hidden.

I, as a programmer, and an artist, who visualizes and adjusts all this, are working on it
