@itsfoss a non-memorable one. Had a bunch of issues with the display, keyboard, fan noise, standby/suspend and started researching on how to fix them, feeling all nerdy and pro.

Then I just switched to a newer kernel version and it fixed everything. Simply a driver issue. (btw: as a linux noob, was very hard to find out kernel version is a thing, installing piece of cake)

Point being: if you get a new laptop, consider installing a new kernel version, before putting in too much manual effort.

Hi @frameworkcomputer! Thanks for the reminder email about BIOS update because !

I tried to update the Framework 13 AMD according to the help page and it does not work. :blobcatsadpats:

I get an "update progess: completed" from H2OFFT but then the screen goes black, device stays powered on but is unresponsive. I forced a shutdown (hold power button) after 2 hours. On booting again I get "Update Failed! EFI Error Code 2, Decompress failed!"

Any pointers?

Here's a half-formed thought I need to mull a bit on:

Somehow, algorithmic (and especially "AI-driven") decision making tends to only be proposed in contexts where it can only — or mostly — affect those with the least power in the system.

Migrants and asylum seekers.
Prisoners.
Families using any form of state support (child benefits, foodstamps, etc).
Palestinians in Gaza.

It somehow never gets proposed for use-cases where it might affect the wealthy and powerful.

One wonders why. 🤔

@rysiek I think the main reason is not the models' fallibility but their exertion of power over other others. People in power don't like power exerted on themselves, regardless of correctness.

Could you please recommend European scientists that are researching the environmental impacts of datacenters and/or AI?

I've suggested in my workplace to assess the environmental footprint of our IT infrastructure, which is mostly cloud-based and uses gradually AI.

The Staff Committee might invite experts in the field to gather more information.

With the news that Google is going to "supercharge" Maps with "AI" (and the poor results I've had with Apple Maps), I finally checked out OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/

OMG THIS IS AMAZING. So much more useful detail! Incredible! Going to dig up an app for my phone and use this for a while to see how it compares to the ad- and AI-ridden nonsense.

I'm looking for recommendations for books set in the tech industry. I'm interested in any genre (except, like, kids books, but why would you have middle grade fiction or a picture book set in the tech industry) and am open to wide definitions of tech. Like, a book about an uber driver counts, a book about a Silicon Valley venture capitalist counts, a book about a programmer at a mid-sized firm in Ohio counts.

I was wondering: when I click on one of the many different PeerTube links within on , is there a way to automatically open them with , just like for YouTube links? I imagine the variety of instances with their different domains are a bit in the way? Would there be a Tusky setting or is it an OS thing? Currently all links are opened in the browser.
