I need some help with an odd situation that happend with milk in my kitchen. It was heated up to 75°C, then poured into glass flask and the lid was thightened (so no air got in). It was on a desk for around 20 hours, with around 20°C. The milk got thick, bit the taste is identical to milk. So, the texture is yogurt like, but the taste is milky. Any ideas what happened? It didn't get sour...

The amount of open source projects not following reuse and SPDX best practice is sad to see.

Checkout https://reuse.software/ , it is good thing to adopt for your software and makes it a lot more convenient to share code and ideas between projects while also respecting the software license. and the kernel massively make use of that.

Slightly off-topic but we are in summer: I have an absurd amount of apples this year. Great recipes anyone? I’ve already made purée and Tarte Tatin…

If you are reading this, you enjoy the openness and decentralisation of Web 3.0.

On #WorldWideWebDay, let's fast-forward to the future.

Web 4.0 will blend virtual and real environments while boosting innovation, rich content and industrial applications.

To ensure everyone benefits from it, we will:

  • Shape global standards for open Web 4.0
  • Foster a European Web 4.0 industrial ecosystem
  • Boost access to trusted information
  • Support virtual public services

How? ➡ https://europa.eu/!hJrNc4

hook,
@hook@toot.si avatar

@EU_Commission, wasn’t Web 3.0 supposed to be that blockchain-based atrocity, which never really took off?

I appreciate that the is looking forward, but am concerned about the need to wrap everything up in a tech-bro hype and industry appeal in order to seem modern and cool.

An actually avant-garde approach would be to take a look at the implications of technology and what kind of society citizens want to live in (GDPR was a good example here).

@EU_Commission , also massive kudos regarding Next Generation Internet . :blobaww:

As a teacher what I'm trying to do is to make the material hard enough that it's challenging and interesting (so it's not boring)-- but not so hard that's it's frustrating.

The wider this sweet spot is makes it easier to teach. More experienced learners start asking their own questions and making their own complications when material is too easy-- and they are more patient with frustration, but also more brave about admitting that they are lost.

hook,
@hook@toot.si avatar

@futurebird , perhaps that’s a cultural difference between the continents, as my thoughts would be similar to @slothrop ’s that math (physics, …) teachers tend to be passionate about the subject but not good at teaching it. (my math teacher was both, luckily)

First I thought that is tied to abstract natural sciences. But at law school I had some profs who were world-class experts, but absolutely horrible at teaching.

Teaching is hard: you need knowledge, (passion,) and actual teaching skills.

hook,
@hook@toot.si avatar

@futurebird,

Oh, that’s absolutely a problem! And as I somehow fall into what you describe – FOSS licensing expert, we’re mostly self-thought, lots of arcane lore involved –, I do try to take a critical look at my own thoughts.

Sometimes “stooping down the the level on an idiot to discuss with them” (for the lack of a better term) can be an excruciatingly tiring and at the same time extremely rewarding and insightful . (Sometimes it’s just the former though, unfortunately.)

When you have (or have had) a long-term SO (Significant Other) do you call them by by their name or did you almost always use a pet name such as "dear" or "honey" etc. ?

@futurebird depends on the context really. Private vs public.

@StarServal, you mean patents (not copyright), since it is about inventions.

And there is at least one hall effect controller patent that already expired. It is from 1988, so hall effect joysticks are not a new thing at all.

What was the first distribution you installed / attempted to install?

For me - a Debian user - it was gentoo, around 2003, which was a mistake.

If my wife wants to do something "computer-y" - pretty much anything - she'll reach for her phone.

If I want to do something "computer-y", I reach for my computer, for pretty much anything other than reading a short message or quick, casual browsing.

Yes, everyone is different, but I much prefer a larger screen and a physical keyboard for anything but the most trivial of tasks.

Are you a computer-first person, or a phone-first person?

@neil, that is a very familiar dynamic to me :blobthinking:

Scammers have sent an email to a distribution list.

Now, when someone replies to the scammer (who does this?!), it emails everyone who originally received it.

Worse, there are now people using "Reply All", telling everyone else not to use "Reply All".

Dear ,

does anyone have experience with using (e.g. Bolt) as a home server, ideally with ?

I’m also open for other silent – ideally fan-less – small-factor, power efficient suggestions.

(After many many years, I’m giving up on ARM dev boards, I simply don’t have the time and energy to spare with JTAGs and UARTs etc.)
