Tell me a silly/funny childhood story!

I'll start:

One time in Sunday School, the teacher was talking about the difference between humans and animals, and mentioned that Animals had Tails and humans didn't. I let her know this was not true, because my Dad had a tail, just in the front, instead of the back. The teacher was silent for several seconds, and tried to correct me in a church appropriate way, but I doubled down, and insisted that my little brothers also had front tails too. This got so heated that the teacher had to go get my parents to take me out of Sunday School.

@RickiTarr Visiting grandma in the mid 1950’s, at a park outside of Ada, Oklahoma, there was a public water fountain labled (someone read it to me) “Laughing Water.” Well, I wanted to laugh, so I tried it—and then everyone ELSE was laughing at my noises and faces from drinking sulpher water! 🙀

Then dad ran into a small stream to rescue my younger brother who’d just thrown a “log” (small stick) off a tiny, no-railing footbridge (glorified plank) and had forgotten to let go. 🙀

@RickiTarr Yep. Years ago, a female colleague at a local college. Great verisimilitude. Took a while to realize what was happening. Compulsive liar. Creepy, sad, and disappointing.

Does anyone know of a way to buy an EV that doesn't relentlessly spy on the driver/passengers and send the data to whoever the carmaker feels like selling it to?

Related: Does anyone know of a service in the Bay Area that will disable all the surveillance that was, without my knowledge or permission, built into a 2008 Prius?

If you were buying a new car for a family today, what would you buy? EV preferred.

(Please don’t say “public transit”. Yes, I’d prefer functional public infrastructure too, and resent the need to own a car, but I live in America.)

@GottaLaff @ben FWIW, wife bought the all-electric Ford Mach-E Mustang a coupla years ago. She loves it. We had Ford’s fastest charger (level-3) installed at home, giving ~ +10%/hr.

Issues:
• Last Fall a software update “bricked” the car. Luckily, in our garage. AAA got it out and to local dealer for fix.
• Flat/touchscreen controls—I’m not a fan. Gimme tactile, to keep eyes safely on the road.
• Range: meh.

Quibbles:
• Seats don’t tilt.
• Door handles cup upward—fills w/ ice & snow.
• etc…

Erm,… My updated to 1.8 iOS @ivory is for some reason showing me “BOOSTS ONLY” on my home timeline. Anyone know how to make it so I can also see all those I follow as well? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’ve poked around a lot looking for something like a show-all switch, but me no see nada. (And I know they’re there b/c I can see more such traffic via the plain vanilla web page interface.)

PSA: I’m fully vaxed and bosted. I wear an mask when I go out in public.

The mask annoys my family.

Yet so far, I don’t have .

Even though, last week, my entire immediate family (3) got it!

So now the N95 stays on at home, even while I sleep in a separate, well-ventilated room.

And 6 days in, I STILL don’t have COVID.

I’m not bragging. I’m sad.

COVID is easy to catch. But it’s also pretty easy to NOT catch.

To stay safe, all you have to do is take it seriously.

I've updated an article I wrote last year, on whether various kinds of single pointer interaction constitute a path-based gesture, for the purposes of 2.5.1 Pointer Gestures.

This update has two significant changes:

  • Clarification of intent -- this article does not define pass or fail criteria for 2.5.1.
  • Working definitions for the difference between swiping, dragging, sliding and flicking/flinging gestures.
