@HonkHase Obviously, "Gospel" is a translation from Habsora. However, it seems incredibly concerning that such terminology would be used for a system which ultimately is designed to assert the population of one religious community over another religious community.
There is politics, there is religion - wtf, are these engineers and military people mixing and conflating the two?
Are they literally using theocratic naming conventions? For AI stalinist style deathlists? Or have I misunderstood?
I feel it provides a direction for where an idea or a reference came from without confusing it with any precision.
Over time Id like to think all these references can be used to join up conversation points Ive made across channels without confusing other aspects of the content.
@peachfront@dougmerritt@ColinTheMathmo@davidtoddmccarty I used to quote Adam Smith describing things during a business information systems masters to highlight how unoriginal the latest guru was. I enjoyed the parlour game but Im not sure it made me very popular.
@samsterby Just look them in the eye and tell them that they are indeed barricades, installed in order to stop marauding terrorists in giant lorries trying to smash into their family.
Its as much horseshit as they are dumping on your lawn that you may as well feed into their sense of paranoia and circular logic.
Have fun seeing that look in their eyes as they try to ascertain whether they feel more secure with that information or not.
@samsterby Start putting posters from the Garden City Movement about the area to mess with their heads further: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Howard-three-magnets.png
Hi #mastodon.
Give me your favorite freedom fighter songs. Political rebellion songs. Fight the power songs. Stand up and lean into it jams. All genres. Deeeeep cuts and b-sides if you have them. I need things to power me through.
My 91 year old dad has used cellphones for years but as his cognitive capacity has declined significantly in recent months, the touchscreens of modern cell phones are confounding him, a lot, leading to significant frustration whenever he wants to just place a call to us. Any kind of accessibility settings or mods we try doesn’t help. We’re now looking at Jitterbug type phones - can anyone weigh in with experience?
@iyashikei_kris@reiver@requiem Ive done a parser which combines #gemtext; Emac's #koutliner formats with #qiuy so that one can use each others syntaxes in combination with eachother
Recent discussions with Ricardo Wurmus about the picture language got me willing to give it another try.
7yo and I made this “bonhomme”; it was me doing most things at the keyboard (especially for the hair!), but little by little they started to get a feel of what to modify to achieve their goals and how to create more shapes. Fun!
A gentle reminder re the Call for Participation for the Declarative and Minimalistic Computing devroom at #FOSDEM (Brussels) on February 2024!
We accept talks from languages that attempt to minimize use of hardware
and software while trying to make systems simpler, more robust and more
secure. If youre working on improving today's systems taking declarative/minimalistic approaches then submit! https://libreplanet.org/wiki/FOSDEM2024-devroom-proposal
@mariyadelano I judge myself in many respects by my ability to hire friends and people I know and pay them a living wage according to their worth (as opposed to 'the market price).
I think earning a surplus and spending it in a responsible and sustainable way is an important improving things in the world.
And yes, that would also include buying proper tooling and equipment for the people so that they/I can perform tasks efficiently.
@mariyadelano Look into the history of Art Nouveau, its fascinating that there were branches of socialism which emphasized artisanal trades and skillsets and designs created so that wealthy people were compelled to spend or donate large sums of money to realize ambitious projects.
Victor Horta's Maison Du Peuple, Brussels was an exemplary expression of this, which unfortunately was destroyed later to satisfy propertly speculation (including via the left wing local government unfortunately).
One Holocaust does not justify another. And before you @ me with “well actually,” they are fenced in, starved, dehydrated, and begging for their lives with no army or means to defend themselves. What else is it? #Israel
@AncientGood@LALegault In my despair at peace breaking down, my chaotic mind seems todrift towards Dr Seuss:
> For fifty-nine years! For I live by a rule
> That I learned as a boy back in South-Going School.
> Never budge! That’s my rule. Never budge in the least!
> Not an inch to the west! Not an inch to the east!
> I’ll stay here, not budging! I can and I will
> If it makes you and me and the whole world stand still!”
@pjotrprins Ah, yes.
I agree, Ive found alternative approaches to be a little too noisy
(especially any with distracting emojis which dance).
Been meaning to dabble with Pleroma, Id assume Id find it satisfying.
@deirdresm@inthehands@AndrzejWasowski I encourage you to track down the journalist and satirist, Martin Rowson's cartoon reworking of The Waste Land to supplement your perspectives on the text(s).
