@alkeddie unreal. Save for one or two mild statements, an uninformed reader would hardly guess WHY these folks' lives have been turned into nightmares. For numbers we're reminded early that Hamas killed 1200 & kidnapped 250, but NOTHING about Israel killing 40,000. Everything in passive voice, buildings "were destroyed," & we hear of Israel "withdrawing" from Al-Shifa but not what happened there (or that they leveled it). Honestly irresponsible.

@alkeddie & ig the podcast is cool & all but it's not my medium, I read stuff. I didn't even see the podcast link. I'm not looking for war porn, I already know what's going on, so the fact that its offered somewhere else is good i guess but easy to ignore. Lots of people in the art world want art to be apolitical at all times. So... it'll be easy for some to tune out, especially for the non-podcast-inclined like myself.

@alkeddie again I'm not saying the needed bloody photos or gory details, but really, we even were told about a few members of one art show who were apparently part of an antisemitic demonstration. That needed to be there, the numbers from October 7 needed to be there, but not that it was Israel who destroyed Al-Shifa (despite no credible indication of it being a Hamas operation base) & left 3 mass graves there? Odd choices is my only point.

@ttpphd reminds me of an article i read recently about two autistic twins, both were diagnosed but one was a college student & very verbal & the other was much more disabled by it & very minimally verbal. The less verbal twin had also had a heart condition in infancy which required major surgery, which resulted in infection which had to be treated.

It seems like there might be some evidence that early life injuries, trauma, immune problems, etc might make autistic traits more pronounced? 🤔

@otfrom @bleakfuture @Adam_Cadmon1 my neighborhood (even just my street) is similarly peppered with a pretty even mix of Trump flags & weird fascist shit, & pride flags and the like. Sadly on our end of the street its a higher proportion of fash propaganda, while further up is a bigger cluster of more tolerabt people. :( It sucks & fr feels like in an SHTF situation, thess folks would not be interested in collaborating with me, but probably rather looting me or menacing my family or both.

@HeavenlyPossum i live in California near where the San Bernardino ISIS shooting took place in 2015. It was holiday season, and a few days later I was in the Tyler Mall in Riverside one night, and suddenly we heard loud crashing noises. Everyone stopped, the whole mall was quiet for a moment while people looked around, and someone said "They're shooting!!" And a stampede began. I've never run so fast in my life, we all thought we might die in a shooting & i didn't wanna die in a stampede either.

@HeavenlyPossum the ENTIRE POLICE FORCES in Riverside AND San Bernardino turned up at the mall. I had a friend who was working in the mall & they die had to go into lockdown. No one knew what was really happening for hours.

Turns out, it was a smash-n-grab robbery at a jewelry store. But everyone who was there is just walking around with that trauma of believing they were in another shooting, & gets constantly & explicitly gaslit because "it was just a robbery" to everyone who wasn't there.

It's official. After 3 months of back and forth, a major medical provider has elected to drop me as a patient for not having a Google or Apple device.

It is unclear if this is legal, but it is very clearly discriminatory and unethical.

Any tech journalists or lawyers interested interested in this?

I would like to do anything I can to ensure this never happens to anyone else.

The fact that simply USING the smartphone on a basic level requires constant & egregious privacy cviolations & agreement to "terms of service" that functionally mean the company can exploit you & every scrap of data your movements, proximity to other people (with smartphones), browsing & shopping habits, etc. For some the convenience is not worth it & that should be a valid choice. It should be considered a huge & onerous decision to use a smart device.

I have for the first time heard about the No Mow Day movement.

It is not a comment practice in the USA and I have never heard of this until a user talked about it.

It is a movement that we fully understand, and even in the area that I live in it will be a hard thing to implement, we think that it is ok not to mow the lawn for May.

Although here we are trying to put on year-round strategies by creating specific gardens and spaces for the pollinators.

Spraying compost into those areas and your lawn will make the topsoil more resilient and help the biodiversity and biology to develop.

@sleepstimulant you're definitely on the right track using hashtags. That's one of the best ways to find stuff people are really talking about ime.

There are also "groups" on Mastodon via the gup.pe instance. You basically tag a topic & if the group exists, the group account/"page" will automatically boost any post its tagged in. If the group doesn't exist, it will be created when you tag it. :) Kind of stressful since like what if I use a wrong spelling or something & create a new group LOL 🤷

Where does one buy/where are you buying your #looseLeafTea of good quality for a decent price, that's NOT Amazon, some other box store type place (Target), or that you maybe even enjoy shopping with?

I'm in the US so preferably a us-based company but that might not be necessary. I just don't like to deal with the weirdness of "importing" & such. Could be in-person or online, although in-person might have a higher chance of not being near me lol. 🤷
