Update on house hunting trip for those who are asking:

We’ll be in BC tomorrow btw.

Turns out the photos of the house were misrepresenting that it had a garage. The doors were there, but behind them were 2 rooms where the garage was. The agent put out a note to all agents, but we didn’t find out til we were in Oregon.

The listing agent got a ton of complaints.

Sons/agent saw that the house had other flaws, so our hunt continues.

This is all for the best. 🇨🇦

We may put offer on a house in Canada that we have yet to see except in photos & vid.

Our kids are up there to see it Sat. when it lists for real, getting lots of interest, it will sell & we still need to drive up, which takes 3 days (we don't fly w Hammy), so we gotta move FAST.

Ack! No pressure, right?

FYI: Finding a house in Port Moody is needle/haystack, so it's crunch time. Our agent =🥇

No, we haven't sold ours yet.

  • cuts $1.5 trillion from Social Security
  • raises Medicare costs & cuts caps on pharma fees
  • cuts Medicaid, ACA/Obamacare & the Children’s Health Insurance Prog by $4.5 trillion over 10 years
  • creates $5.5 trillion in tax cuts for the rich and corporations
  • eliminates all clean energy tax incentives
  • raises Social Security Retirement age to 69

Welp that house showing fell flat. A family (would have paid all cash) .. husband with Parkinson’s. They need a downstairs main bedroom. We have that, and an upstairs one. They knew we have a 2 story house. Rejected because… there are stairs. Go figure.

Tomorrow is our 1st open house so we have to leave for 3+ hours. I won’t be online much, but Hammy gets a day at the beach!

See you in the morning though. If news breaks, I’ll post it. ‘Nite!🩷

@GottaLaff — @czds and I have a chair lift from our old place in NoCal … too bad I can’t think of a way to get it to you in SoCal; it’s just sitting in our garage. We have been trying to donate it but no one accepts such items either because they are medical equipment (Habitat for Humanity) or too specialized (local medical supply place that takes donated equipment, also Rotary, etc)

Someone (follower) just DMd me accusing me of being a 'drag on support' of Dems.

Why? He said "we're all supporting the democracy coalition", & I explained that many in my replies are angry, not supportive. He accused me of something something Hillary's emails re Biden... not sure what that meant, but it was offensive.

If anyone ever accuses me of not supporting Biden in this election, they haven't read my TL or listened to me on air.

Talk about offensive. I blocked.

I spent 5 years writing FAQ pages and "talking people off the ledge" each time there was a collective meltdown.

I stopped doing that because it is never ending.

I keep saying the same things over and over.

In 2021, when people were demanding indictments, I said, "indictments are the start of a long harrowing process."

I explained that trials are harrowing.

Judges make bad decisions.

Juries don't always get it right. A person can be guilty but be acquitted.

Why the hell does my house suddenly reek of cigarette smoke or something very like it?

The only way it's actually cigarette smoke is if somebody just came and sat on my back stoop and smoked heavily for a few hours or something, which seems rather unlikely.

Nothing appears to be on fire indoors or out.

Running the air purifiers on assumption something /was/ on fire outdoors previously and wafted through, but very rn

doing my corp internet security training and I'm reminded of a few stories.

CW: Old man telling stories follows.

in 1998ish I was a grad student. Even though I was in the ag Econ department I was interested in all things tech. So I learned about promiscuous mode on ethernet and ran some random sniffing software. At that point authentication for POP email was not encrypted, but was plain text. in one day of sniffing I had email creds for everyone on my floor.

I don't usually give life hacks, but this is my one:

If you live in a cool climate, in the winter get yourself an inexpensive heating pad and put it under your mattress pad and leave it there. On cool nights just bump it on when you are getting ready for bed. Your feet will thank you and it will turn itself off after 2 hours.

@Cmastication I had a buckwheat hulls pillow that I would microwave and put at the foot of the bed under the covers; it would gradually cool but still be slightly warm in the morning. Same principle. Good life hack. One disadvantage to my way, after about 30 years, the cover was written [edit: worn] enough that the kernels starting coming out; eventually patching no longer held
