I just read a story about banning turn right on red in many parts of SF (good. I almost get run over very often by exactly this). But the story interviewed someone who said ‘but I think now with people walking around with noise cancelation, I can't tell you how many times I've seen people almost get run over’

People who blame pedestrians and victims. Why do you do this? What is wrong with you?

@skinnylatte I walk to work and finally had to map out a path that minimized street crosses and never put my back to turning traffic. And even with that every time I cross the street, I'm like:

Little girl starring right at you doing the hand motion with two fingers that she is watching you. She leaves and then comes back in still doing it, but more aggressively.

    Looks like we're 50/50 on cloud free eclipse viewing where we're going. I'll take those odds. the good news is we have friends in the area we haven't seen in a decade, so even if the eclipse is a bust, the trip won't be. I’m using this site I got from a Verge article to track things.

    Anyone who wants to ‘help’ governments set up Mastodon or something erm, respectfully don’t understand governments. The problems are never ‘we don’t know how to do something’ (most of the times we know how to do something). The problems are why we can’t do something (never technical, always money, people, procurement and policies)

    @skinnylatte I work for a large municipality on the east coast. It would take me at least six months to get through procurement and then another three months of contract negotiations just to start the project. And it would have to be US based hosting and services. Or a full code review if I want to self host. The comms department could setup a Threads account with just some admin approvals.

    I posted a big, angry thread this morning and then stayed entirely off social media all day while visiting some super beautiful badlands in southern Saskatchewan. (Seriously, so beautiful, I had no idea that kind of landscape was nearby.)

    Do I want to wade into my mentions which have likely mostly degraded into weird arguments and reply guys, or pretend like it never happened?

    @stux Meanwhile I'm over here with a Paypal account I haven't logged into in years that they won't delete. Anytime I have to use Paypal I do it unauthenticated, and when I stick in my email it's says “you have an account, don't you want to login?”
