After driving the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, I finally get EV “engine” sounds

Fake gearshifts and powertrain noises enhance Hyundai’s electric hot hatch—mostly.

Terrible idea: analog data floppy disk.
Each period on the disk records a byte.
Maximum magnetic strength equals 255, minimum magnetic strength equals 0.

If your noise floor is too high, smaller values cannot be recorded

mavu,
@mavu@mastodon.social avatar

@foone computers are considered too accurate by laypeople these days anyway.
Everyone trusts numbers just because a computer came up with them.
I like this idea because it puts "approximate" and "good enough" back in the computing world.
Those lower bytes don't matter in the big picture anyway.

A great man said you'd be terrified if you knew how many people have no soul. In the underlying spiritual tradition sometimes called the perennial philosophy, there is a belief that in order to have a soul that can survive death, one must grow one, within. Many traditions reference "stunted souls". To grow a soul, it's said, one must act against one's own automatic tendency to selfishness, and unkindness. To do that, one must watch oneself honestly--and see those tendencies...

mavu,
@mavu@mastodon.social avatar

@johnshirley2024 i like that idea.
It's a much nicer way than "sin and you will go to hell forever".
Same behaviour modification direction but much more positive.

Why do shirt stays only come in humongous mens sizes even though they make little dress shirts for women (which the cleaners charge extra to clean for some godforsaken reason) and they don't stay tucked in but there are no solutions?

if you are a small man what do you do?

"business dress" hates small persons.

mavu,

@futurebird @pzriddle i dont know.
.
Use in combination with suspenders and no part of your clothing goes anywhere it's not supposed to.
AND none of your clothes need to be tight just so they stay in place.

Seems pretty much ideal.

    @futurebird @llewelly if vertebrates went extinct do you think invertebrates would eventually grow to large sizes? like could there be insects the size of dogs and beyond? if it did happen, what features would you expect to evolve that would allow such a thing?

    mavu,

    @futurebird @MichaelTBacon @gay_ornithischians @llewelly atmosphere oxygen content limits insect size.
    The reason for the very large insect fossils we find is the oxygen content of the atmosphere at that time was iirc 1.5x higher. (Or more? Dont remember)

    I've had a few more people accuse me of being an AI, so here's your semi-annual reminder that I am indeed a living breathing person.

    Last weekend I went to a wedding with my girlfriend, who is also not an AI. You can tell that I am indeed human because AI does not know how to wear a suit. It will someday, but the technology is simply not there yet.

    mavu,
    @mavu@mastodon.social avatar

    Here's some helpful Mastodon tips:

    1. Boost posts to let that user know you are hungry and would like for them to make you a grilled cheese.

    2. Do not follow anyone named Kevin. Kevins are shunned here.

    3. Tell us about yourself! Write your height, weight, and combat experience in your bio so others have at least a vague idea of how they would fare against you in the octagon.

    mavu,
    @mavu@mastodon.social avatar
