As "early adopters" are no longer the focus, EV sales are falling across the U.S., for a wide variety of reasons, many of which are utterly reasonable. The push was too soon, too fast, and the existing transition mandates are now being recognized broadly as being unrealistic.

@lauren @Brendan @mkoek @rootbeerdan Strange. I’ve been driving electric since January 2020 and have never experienced charging issues. Also I would call it under-hyped rather than over-hyped: drove a regular rental car last week and my god that feels slow and clunky. Not going back to fossil fuel cars that’s for sure. But I never see that mentioned: electric is just a lot quicker, more comfortable, and easier to drive.

Problem:

  • I have a self-contained service, say a simple docker-compose setup
  • i have customers that can sign up with me
  • each customer needs their own instance of that service

Anything off the shelf for that? i.e. something that spins up a cheap vps on trigger?

Earlier today, Judge McAfee issued an amended notice ahead of Thursday’s evidentiary hearing on whether Fani Willis should be disqualified from prosecuting #Trump and others.

The new order specifies that the hearing is set to continue through Friday.

Just because the right-wing are anti-Taylor doesn't mean everyone on the left needs to start stanning a billionaire.

There are no good billionaires. If she was a good person, she wouldn't be one either. It's fine to enjoy her music but she's as harmful as every other billionaire for simply existing.

Do I think some billionaires are more actively harmful than others? Sure. But none of them should be billionaires. There are no good ones.

@AlexanderKingsbury @kitoconnell Well put; scapegoating (judging people as a group to blame them collectively for stuff) is not exclusively a right-wing thing. Even though the targets are not nearly as vulnerable (so I’m not that bothered) the line of thinking is eerily similar.

an air conditioner doesn't "make the air colder," strictly speaking. technically, it moves the heat from the inside air to the outside air.

similarly, a light bulb doesn't "emit light." it sucks up the darkness and puts it outside. that's why it's dark at night, because people have their lights on inside.

    Each year, around Christmas and New Year, I quietly set fire to ransomware groups that target hospitals and DDoS groups in my spare time - by doing things like collecting all the info and informing their ISPs.

    This year is the first year I haven’t been able to get a single group taken offline. Why? All the ISPs have referred me to CERTs, law enforcement or threat intelligence companies rather than enforcing their terms of service.

    There shouldn’t be an industry with incentives to just monitor.

    @GossiTheDog Agree. There are good people doing threat intel and it can definitely be useful to know bad guys’ “MO” but I’ve been feeling uncomfortable too about what seems to be a focus on info gathering (and storytelling) at the cost of actually doing anything about what’s happening. I get the feeling we’ve given up on protecting individual users and small companies in favour of corporate clients who can afford expensive red team/blue team setups.

    @jwildeboer Okay I can sort of understand what happened- you could argue that Postfix is not actually vulnerable to anything. But of course they, and other major e-mail relay software producers, should have been included in communications. Wonder why CERT/CC didn’t share wider; they certainly have the relevant contacts. Wietse Venema even chaired FIRST.org for many years.

    @briankrebs next Friday is a big one for ransomware groups: there are always incidents on Christmas Eve because they wait until staffing is low but this year it’s a long weekend so even more ideal to execute an attack
