Talk about silk purses from sow’s ears!

I take my 13yo episodes, some of which we recorded over Skype and sound pretty janky, run them through ’s , isolate the voices and process them through the tool, then re-integrate it replacing the original voices and it actually sounds pretty good.

AI tools have their place (just probably not as information repositories.)

(Needless to say, I don’t have the original master recordings anymore.)

One of the reasons we should be specific when we complain about generative AI.

OK, who's playing Patreon bingo? I got my first smack on the wrist.

It is for an story which was posted on Patreon at the end of last year. Before their guidelines changed.

So yes, they are applying their new rules retroactively. Naughty past me! Should have been able to see the future!

And the reason they've removed it? They think it portrays 'real sex acts with real people.'

Story in next post, I'll let you lot judge.

People will tell you that Subscribestar Adult is an alternative, but their payment policies (they want bank account information) is a red flag for many people. If they are ever hacked, things could go very badly.

Draftsmith just released the results of a survey of ~500 language professionals on .

"The number of people who have little or no use for AI vastly outweigh the early adopters. Fear and cynicism outweigh the optimists."

"AI may be good for bringing low levels of language skill up to mediocre. But beating professionals at their own superpower is far harder."

Those were a couple of lines that jumped out at me. Find more at https://draftsmith.ai/blog/the-complex-truth-about-ai-and-language-professionals

Fear and cynicism (i.e. feelings) are the only reasons to reject LLMs?

That says a lot.

There's this thing where an American (it's almost always an American) takes something that's generally considered racist in the US, and takes it to the country of origin of the diasporan people it mocks, and asks the folks there whether the thing is okay.

Those people, who are part of the dominant culture in their country, look at the thing and either funny or at worst innocuous. The American then concludes that the thing can't be racist because those people think it's not a bad thing.

nobilis,
@nobilis@smutlandia.com avatar

Don't ask members of a dominant culture whether something that mocks a subculture (i.e. subordinate culture) is bad. Ask members of the subculture. If they tell you that the thing mocks them, believe them.

Recognize that diasporan subcultures are not the same as the cultures they come from.

Voting democrat is like taking out the garbage. It's not pleasant. It's not fun. It's not going to add bedrooms. It's not going to fill the fridge.

But if you don't do it, the place starts to stink.

Am I the only one that sees a fairly clear distinction between generative AI ("Computer, write me an essay" or "Computer, create an image") and non-generative AI ("Computer, show me the grammar errors in this essay" or "Computer, remove the red-eye from this image")?

Because I see a lot of people saying "Oh, what is an isn't AI is such a complex issue, we can't possibly make distinctions" and I think we can.

    @mekkaokereke@hachyderm.io avatar

    If the US government really had alien bodies, then the US president would know about it.

    If the US president knew about it, then Trump would know about it.

    If Trump knew about it, he would have told everyone, bragged about it, kept boxes of documents about it at Mar-A-Lago, etc. There would be a ketchup stained original photograph of an alien autopsy on the floor of his bathroom.

    Since we haven't heard him brag about having seen a photo of an alien, we know that he hasn't seen one.

    nobilis,
    @nobilis@smutlandia.com avatar

    @mekkaokereke

    I think the only potential flaw in this argument is the first line; I think if the president doesn't think to ask, if he's so focused on himself and what people can do for him, he might not ask, and an intelligence administration that knows about steps 2, 3 and 4 of your argument would just not say anything.

    Potentially. I think this is persuasive, but not ironclad.
