For the last several months, a city at the heart of Silicon Valley has been training artificial intelligence to recognize tents and cars with people living inside in what experts believe is the first experiment of its kind in the United States.

For people wondering, it seems like this is where you go to recycle battery powered toothbrushes and, uh, similar products of a personal nature that have batteries and circuits

(cough vibrators cough)

Given how prevalent that stuff is now, I feel like they need more locations and an easier why to handle, or it will all end up in landfill.

If you get 5150ed, you may get 3 nights of meals and a bed, and possibly a refill on your meds and some medical care.

Or you might just be tranquilized to the eyeballs for 72 hours then pushed out the door groggy and back where you started.

Ugh. Kinda tired of (1) all the errors in SF Standard articles, though errors are not confined to them, and (2) this line SF Standard seems determined to push that one politico basically dreamed up night markets when things like that have been happening for years, and various people - including me - have been pushing for more of them for years, and raising concerns about some of the regulatory speed bumps for them, something I broached in a big City Hall meeting back in 2019...

(Most unsubtle error in the piece is that the night market was not on the consent calendar.)
