@tewha this kills me to this day… I have something in the clipboard, but the receiving app only allows for an open file dialog. I want some sort of ‘from clipboard’ button in that dialog. ‘view clipboard’ in finder should have a draggable proxy icon.
I have a theory that the people who take Balance of Nature are the people who take Prevagen are the people who use Lume are the fans of Shen Yun are the voters who gave us Trump. Just a theory.
Who in the Mac universe is making apps that use the neural engine hardware? Is anyone doing LLM stuff on-device based on an existing model? If so, how much faster is it than, say, a recent NVIDIA card or CPU-only?
I feel there’s a huge amount of real estate on my CPU (m1 ultra) that’s basically unused.
@jann@mluisbrown the other thing I want to do is ‘simple’ things humans do like what I tooted the other day… take all my email, analyse it and do a 5-ish category open card sort, then sort all existing and future mail using those criteria plus additions/corrections.
When I was in Wellington, New Zealand, I was entranced by their unusual crosswalk icons. I asked my new friends there about them. I was told a story about a drag performer and activist by the name of Carmen Rupe. She was a trans woman who was also Māori (native people of NZ).
Look, the truth is, we don't know if these MAGA motherfuckers are performing an act for the bloodthirsty crowd or if they're really that delusional, hateful, and stupid, but given the choice to believe a pleasant lie (that they're not that bad and just doing kayfabe) or the horrible truth (that they're actually fucking evil), I choose the latter, because it's better to inspire action over inaction.
@fraying yeah, I never understood why there is a dialog about whether or not these folks believe the hate/lies they spew. It doesn’t fucking matter. They’re fomenting and causing actual physical harm.
“Apple made Final Cut Pro with SwiftUI, what's your excuse? 😜”
They support only one of Apple's platforms, in a non-resizable window, with a host of engineers, QA, private API, and access to SwiftUI source. But! Hopefully that's going to start making SwiftUI better for everybody, fast. Final Cut Pro is demonstrably glitchy in the UI, which I expect will get eyes on the problem. Unfortunately that won't do a whole lot to help cross-platform experience until this variant of FCP comes to the Mac
@stroughtonsmith Considering that variant loses a lot of existing desktop functionality, I'm hoping it doesn't.
We already lost a huge amount of ground in the FCP/FCPX transition which took years to get back (and still there's stuff that isn't up to par w/competition). I'd prefer not to have another 'reset'.
Knowing that just 11 people are responsible for most book challenges gives me a little more peace of mind than I had. But also: this is an exploit. These people are literally hacking the system. If you consider these challenges to be a sort of denial of service attack, how might you mitigate?
@ben I’m also thinking on some level the boards are inviting these things. Why would a town even entertain an out-of-town/state complaint? so step two (maybe step 0?) would be to elect non-shitty people to the board.
I don't know why we only get batman and spiderman movies when there are like a hundred muppets and every single one of them has leading man/woman potential
MAS*H S8 E17 - ‘Heal Thyself’ was always a stand out episode and one that’s burned in my brain from childhood. Col. Potter and Winchester are down (and hilarious bunk mates) w/ the mumps.
Their replacement surgeon seems to be a cut above the rest until a particular brutal run of OR sessions when he cracks and disappears.
Newsome’s mental breakdown is played to perfection by Edward Herrmann. Watching the sad, scared reactions of Hawkeye, Margaret and even Charles is award worthy.
Hey #gamers… I’m thinking I should update my PC as SF6 and Diablo IV are coming out in a few weeks. I’m currently running a 1080ti with 12GB RAM. What’s a good jump that will give me sustained 60fps in these titles? I don’t mind switching teams (AMD). Would updating make sense?
GPUs are insanely expensive these days… does eBay make sense? Looking for a good bang for the buck, and trying to not go backward re: VRAM.
@paul@jackbrewster ooh. Good point. I think I’ve got a 750w with a 9900k. Don’t particularly want to update the other components (may as well make a whole new machine at that point).
Here’s a thought experiment: If you had a small group of skilled mobile, desktop, server, and web front-end engineers who have access to time and money, and are eager to MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE USING THEIR SKILLS (and not just spin up yet another exploitive startup) what would YOU have them do?
Be specific.
Assume cost is no object.
It’s time to stop bellyaching about how bad tech is, and start brainstorming about what good it can do.
Please repost for exposure.
EDIT: Let’s add hardware, industrial design, and UX engineers in the mix as well, to round things out.
