Do Ukrainians actually understand what full EU membership means? It is more about the organisation of state & society than about political alignment.

You can meet NATO requirements by aligning military standards. EU demands to change laws, taxation, etc . I don't think any member in the past managed in less than 10y.

Introducing a EU does not create "2nd class members" - it will allow Ukraine 🇺🇦 to join Europe faster.

Whereas turnout for the elections was a record high, for the referendum it was only 40%, i.e. below the 50% required for it to be binding. The wording of the questions was very biased, so only supporters bothered voting I guess!

Indeed.

@noelreports Shmyhal is wrong here. It is not about "second class membership". To meet the Copenhagen criteria & all the chapters to sign off & get access to EU membership, Ukraine probably needs at least 10 more years to qualify. Remember that full membership means the 4 freedoms (movement of goods, persons, services & capital) & can only occur when a level playing field is achieved.
Today's EU is binary (in/out) - multi-tier membership helps to offer some benefits early. We/you need that!

@noelreports Just as the decided in 1971 (Resolution 2758) to replace Taiwan by the PRC as representative of China, the General Assembly could decide today to change the seat that belonged to the Soviet Union from to as legacy state. This is not a UNSC matter, so nobody can veto that.
