People who are like "The migration to Mastodon has failed!"

No it hasn't. I literally migrated to Mastodon from Twitter, and I don't use Twitter anymore, but I do use Mastodon every day.

I call that a successful migration.

I love that Mastodon has that thing where someone interacts with you, then you check them out, find out they're cool, follow them, and check out their boosts and find out they follow cool people so now you follow those other cool people as well and now you follow a whole bunch more cool people.

On my morning walk I literally came across a fork in the road. 🍴 Then 20 minutes later I found another one!

I've been using Inkscape for over 10 years. If I had been using Illustrator for 10 years I would have paid Adobe over $2,500 in "rental" fees for a subscription that stops as soon as I stop paying.

Instead I started paying $5 a month to Inkscape to help make sure we can all use it for free for as long as we want.

Well, the joke's on me, karma, and all the bullshit. Two days ago I said that I hated Microsoft and today my wife comes to me and says her employer is replacing the Mac she has been using for work the last 15 years with a Windows machine.

She asked me for advice on a "good" Windows laptop, that was "like a Mac" and all I could say was "It's going to run Windows, so you'll hate it no matter what."

Still trying to find a workaround for this issue...

I found this crate in the alley today… care to guess what was inside?

Why do we have so many programming languages!?

Someone at work ordered a bunch of cheap "slap bracelets" for a silly project and I said "Hey, do you think if I cut this open it'll just be an old tape measure inside?"

And yup...

Every lawn care service I've seen is riding around on (and swinging around) gas powered things.

I wonder if you could create a sustainable clean(er) power lawn care company that uses solar / renewable energy to charge batteries that are used to power the machines used for lawn maintenance.

I've learned to lower my expectations with the Anbernic RG35XX when it comes to playing PICO-8 and TIC-80 games. Lots of them are fine, but some either run super-slow, or get errors when they run.

The ones that do work definitely work well, so I just need to focus on those.

(To be fair I didn't even know about PICO-8 or TIC-80 when I got it, so those are all just bonus games.)

They should do a version of the show "The Price Is Right" but have all boomers as contestants and have them try to guess the prices of the basics needed to survive in the modern age.

My Solder Board model. White from the Prusa MINI, green from the P1S. Both really good quality, the P1S was definitely faster.

What’s in Gallery 69 today? New “Warning Sign” mini print, some 3D printed “Pidgin” keychains, a stack of rocks, a ceramic vessel, some retro-reflective prints… FREE ART! Come and get it!

I'm also going to overhaul the pegboard... This 3D printed holder can contain all these screwdrivers in half the vertical space it used to take up. I'm digging into some OpenSCAD pegboard holder generators now...

Twitter/X is dying. I work with a company that has over 12,000 followers, built up though years of creating & sharing good content, and nowadays posts get almost no engagement, and nearly every new follower looks like a fake account or a new user with no followers. At this point I just wish it would die faster.

Someone suggested maybe artists should "pick up some new skills" so here was my reply:

"I currently do copywriting, editing, proofing, photography, video production and editing, illustration, writing code, 2D, 3D, and graphic design, digital fabrication, building electronics, operating and maintaining equipment, technical & customer support, sales, marketing, project management... and probably more I forgot. Let me know what other skills I should pick up."

I made the mistake of browsing some Bambu Lab groups on Facebook. Lots of crazy people, and I just read dozens of comments about using glue sticks or hair spray for a normal PLA print… what!?

rasterweb, to 3DPrinting
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

Hmm, I am seriously considering a Bambu Lab P1S (or P1P) printer. I still love the Prusa MINI but I need to get rid of the old Monoprice which is past its prime, and that makes room for another printer.

(And yeah, I'll wait until at least Sept. 20th before I do anything.)

I wonder how reliable WiFi connections are on the Raspberry Pi Pico W. Could I set two up to talk to each other and it'll just work, even after I ship it to someone across the country? How reliable is it? Will they always see each other properly?

I haven't done much with WiFi stuff on microcontrollers, and... I know it should just work, but the real world is a harsh environment.

I got some new filament containers... I'm not going to call it a hack because I just consider it common sense.

If you wanted to explain to a 10 year old how a button or switch can change between two things, like AM or FM on a radio, but didn't want to use a radio because it may be outdated... what example might you use?
