@RustyBertrand
Well, I do recall that around 20-years ago the U.S. was fighting in Iraq, families were being killed, conservatives were objecting to peaceful protests about it…
Morning came too soon. But I slept long and well and I hope that I will have better energy today but I probably should still take things easy as possible.
I can hear Ginza thrashing away at the ball that dangles from her cat tree.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was released 19 years ago today.
"Mere seconds before the Earth is to be demolished by an alien construction crew, journeyman Arthur Dent is swept off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect."
It is highly unlikely that anything which happens between now & November will prevent the former President of the United States from running again.
If you want to get worked up about things like the Supreme Court, or whether gag orders are being violated, or whether he spends time in jail, that's fine, but please don't let that distract you from what you could actually be doing between now & November to make sure that he never sets foot in the White House again.
@gulovsen
As the excellent @Teri_Kanefield has repeatedly stated: the courts won’t save us from fascist Trumpism. He needs to be defeated at the ballot box.
Hitler was aressted and put in jail and his Nazi party still grew.
The right-wing extremists need to lose elections widely and resoundingly to break their power.
When we suggest that capitalism must be eliminated, someone always wants to know:
"What will you replace it with?"
If you have a cancerous tumor removed, do you think you need to replace it with something?
If you have a parasite sucking your life away, you remove it. You don't replace it with something else.
If you are a slave, you need freedom, not a new master.
Someone always asks:
"What is your solution?"
As if it's up to me. Like they can't imagine a world where people work things out together instead of following some leader's proprietary "solution". As if there has to be one solution for everyone. As if there even has to be "a solution".
Look if you are saying the only improvement / replacement for #capitalism is ending all laws and society, I fundamentally disagree.
People naturally and beneficially forms groups and do things that take collective action. We have seen that some laws are better than no laws. That people are cantankerous and messy and there is no simple, perfect solution for society. There are only choosing between imperfect options.
@clive
Hey Clive, I am still figuring out this Mastodon/Fediverse thing, and I think you will get more visibility on your post if you edit it to include something like the hashtag # NYC (no space).
“There is only one country to unlock what’s happening at the moment – the carnage, the mass-scale violations of international law. That country is the United States. People in the White House and the State Department, they hold the key to aid delivery and a ceasefire.”
Agnes Callamard, secretary-general of Amnesty International
Sure, let’s not mention Russian invading Ukraine and committing slaughter and ethnic cleansing, China exterminating the Uyghers, crushing the Tibetans and Hong Kong, Israel slaughtering civilians.
Blame only the U.S. for not stopping them all nor controlling the world.
I've been promising myself to get Game of Thrones, as I'd never seen it. Watched the first few episodes and I didn't enjoy it. I persevered, last night, and by episode six I was enjoying it.
