A Enhancement Proposal has reached FINAL status:

FEP-f1d5: NodeInfo in Fediverse Software

" is a intended to standardize upon a way to provide server-level metadata to the public. This enables tools and clients to utilize this metadata to assess server health or facilitate end-users choices about servers and software to use on the Fediverse."

Welcome to #Discourse on the #Fediverse 🎉

The #SocialHub development community has installed the brand new #ActivityPub plugin on their forum.

To test the functionality of the plugin, two forum categories federate their first topic post to a group you can follow. They are:

#Fediversity category with @fediverse

#FEP category with @feps

See also: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/welcome-discourse-to-the-fediverse/3275

FEP forum topics are where Fediverse enhancement proposal are discussed. For list of FEP's see:

I guess what Hixie is proposing is not in line with direction you wanna give to your browser impl? Not sure. But this intriguing. For a different project I've been looking a bit into - what I call a ". Everywhere." paradigm shift based on , and Component Model.

(Very much in 'hype cycle' stage for early adopters with growing attention in corporate world. Not so much so in circles yet)

"This document proposes to enable browsers to render web pages that are served not as HTML files, but as Wasm files, skipping the need for , , and parsing in the rendering of the page, by having the , , and APIs exposed directly to . To enable developers to continue to use the wider range of APIs exposed on the web, a mechanism to "escape" to a JavaScript environment would need to be made available as well."

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@haverholm

From what I've learned about WebAssembly the small compilation size is one of its highlights.

I call the trend on Wasm I gleaned, a true paradigm shift. "WebAssembly. Everywhere." with use in the browser, the server, IoT, mobile devices, the cloud.

If you consider WebApp development, it has gotten kinda utterly crazy. Spending more time on stacks and infra and maintenance of that, than on the code itself.

Wasm offers a complete delivery model and e.g. Docker is adding support.

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@federico3 one of the key points in Wasm is increased security. Every wasm module is sandboxed and in wasm components (based on WASI and Component Model capability-based model) on the basis of least authority have access to nothing. You have to grant that. It allows trustless computing and plugin models where you can let 3rd parties do their thing as they wish.. they only have the interface you expose to program against i.e. via contract-based programming.

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@federico3 yea. But that is a different concern, as neither does current approaches that are popular in webapp world.

I just noticed this wasm thing gaining steam and not much attention in FOSS circles on it, which may be for good reasons, or could mean unpreparedness once this lands big.
