Lol, turns out they build this ranking based on how often the language appears in search engine results. This feels like it kinda means that
(1) if a language is badly documented and has disproportionately many questions asked (think stack exchange), it will rank higher
(2) posts that actually talk negatively about a language are also counted as points in this ranking.
I still cannot get over the wonder and mystery of what gall wasps can do to plants. This is bio-engineering! The wasp lays her egg and somehow the plant makes a structure that is not a fruit, it is not a seed, it is not a leaf or stem. It's a wholly recombinant architecture customized to the needs of the growing young larva. The plant provides food and shelter-- It's like a cancer, but with a purpose.
@futurebird
Interesting.. But they do exist and do find themselves inside figs when eaten by humans? I always wondered if that was a myth or not 😁 Figs are amazing! @olav@IngaLovinde
> According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Americans consume an average of 2.4 burgers per day, which is about 50 billion burgers per year.
> By the time you’re done reading this sentence, McDonald’s has probably sold about 2,250 #burgers
> Worldwide, McDonald’s sells about $50 million worth of burgers a day, which is about 750 burgers sold a second.
My hardcore Windows-using gamer friend just got a Steam Deck. He told me he's "not interested in modifying it" and that he "will use it like a stock Pixel [phone]".
My biggest fear for the Steam Deck was that people would just install Windows on it, but it's my understanding that most people haven't done that. It seems that if you sell hardware with Linux preinstalled and support it properly, people will happily use it.
@JoeRess@davidak Oh. Well, on that note, I heard recently a stock Pixel is like insane when it comes to tracking. This friend ihf mine runs an ad-blocking firewall in his house and noticed a huge spike in attempted tracking traffic when his gf's friend came by with her (almost new) #Pixel phone. I wouldn't trust an OS carefully crafted by any of the big names.

"naar links"? 🤔 Als een rechterhandzwaaier, zou ik zeggen kloksgewijs als ge vanonder naar uw serviette kijkt. Wat voor mij betekent naar voren toe aan de rechterkant en maar mezelf toe aan de linkerkant.
@strypey We have always used "chains" for decision making. It allows more complex decision making too. You basically make a msg with all the options and suboptions and people copy paste the message from the last person and add there name in the right places. It also allows for delegation so you can decide for someone else if there are physically with you or not in the group.
This small carving of a water bird was created 33,000 years ago. Sculpted in mammoth ivory, it was found in the Hohle Fels cave in Germany in 2002 and it's the earliest known representation of a bird.
Biden is old, but so is Trump.
But, somehow Biden comes across as older.
It shouldn't matter if a president has some sickness or disability that has no impact on their ability to make decisions. I wonder if it's that very effort to project "energy" that makes Biden seem strained?
Walk with a cane! Stop wearing contacts and get some glasses. BE OLD. Embrace it. I always feel like I'm watching my great grandmother trying to do cartwheels with Biden.
@jbaert But monument upkeep is also not expensive. It's something that should totally be raken care of by the municipality by sending some ppl there once a week to clean things up and maybe twice a year to do some maintenance. It's a mountain..
"Threads is a text-based everything for everyone. There are friends posting personal updates or funny memes. There are creators posting relevant content related to their topics. There are also creators and prominent people posting fun posts / updates to connect with their followers. Throw in some reels and links to videos in the mix, and this is a complete hotch-potch ...
@strypey Yeah, tbh I think the model is broken. I think it would have been better had our #ActivityPub servers just be data servers pushing out posts. And then the apps would just be front-ends that post different data.
I thought that kinda what the CommonsPub project or something was trying to do. But things are moving fast and all these services don't just use open AP APIs for c2s, so it's hard for a generic server to service all the front-ends.
@philipdutre What was the name of that genetics "game"/environment where different creatures would be created at random and by breeding and you can just watch them run around and struggle to survive?
I promise a chokotoff for the answer.
