Good news, everyone! The Yurok Tribe will now co-manage 125 acres of Redwood forest, a gateway to the state/national park, along with the National Park Service.

The tribal nation signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday with Redwood national and state parks and the non-profit Save the Redwoods League.

#ConsumerUnions are a complementary way to help more companies unionize and to support existing worker #Unions, right? Is this common knowledge?

I don't see a lot of chatter like organizing folks to buy goods & services from union shops and to lobby the non-union companies they do business with to unionize (or get out of the way — or BE SUPPORTIVE — when the workers finally do). But this seems to make so much sense, I assume it's happening and I just haven't read enough or found my people.

A big #Mastodon problem is that things appear broken and we're told "it's by design" and then later things appear broken and we're told "it's because decentralized" and then later things appear broken and we're told "it's an outage or DDOS" and then later things appear broken and we're told "it's folks got defederated by a rogue admin during some drama" and then later things appear broken because they are.

It is a fucked system and impressively it's better than the alternatives in many ways.

Any current #Netflix employees here feel comfortable sharing the state of #Inclusion and #DEI at the 'flix?

I'm especially curious about the cognitive dissonance of having Inclusion as a value (is it anymore?) and Ted Sarandos holding the line that platforming TERFs causes no harm.

Also curious about the state of collective action after the walkout and whether any of the Trans* ERG's demands were met internally since they weren't met publicly to my knowledge.

#Lazyweb request in the area of #Neurodiversity and specifically #Autism with a focus on adults and deception & trust.

I'm having a hard time finding reliable info that is a) more recent and b) centers neurodiversity versus disease/defect/disorder.

I would be happy with either or both:

1. scholarly or adjacent work

2. personal anecdotes or community discussions

There's so much autism disinfo that vanilla Google is useless and Google Scholar results are biased towards pathologizing.

Mastodon prioritizes white comfort.

I believe Black people when they say this place is hostile, the tools are lacking, and the broader community doesn't do enough to make BIPOC feel safe & welcome. It wasn't difficult to get this memo…I struggle to understand how others miss it.

The most generous explanation I have is strategic ignorance. We have no time for that kind of nonsense.

Feels like I'm adding to the noise, but silence feels like complicity.

1. Don't.

2. No. Really. Don't share disinfo even critically.

3. If you must share, mar the original disinfo in some way to unambiguously indicate — even at thumbnail size or cropped — that it is bad. Cross it out or put a big 🚫 sticker over the entire thing. Be clear, not cute. [I would love if (3) became the norm]

4. Consider marking media as sensitive or content-warning the post. Some community rules may require this.

The solution to #Substack isn't to switch to another capitalist. The solution is to cajole all your software developer or tech savvy friends into making it super dead simple to self-host your own blog using #Ghost or any number of good-enough self-hosting blogging platforms.

OR

You can run an existing Fedi-compatible blogging suite for you and several (but < 50) of your friends — making sure at least two work in tech and have a vested interest in the site staying up.
