They will likely try to argue to the that the case depends on , whose testimony provided the only evidence that had direct knowledge of the plot to disguise the reimbursement as fees

@Nonilex A mob man with not that much time left. Why not spend those remaining years in prison while assuring his family’s future? The alternative was to turn on Trump and become a pariah in that swamp where he felt most comfortable. It’s notable that the defense didn’t call him either.

Stop wasting time on this Alito flag stuff:

  1. It's not illegal to fly those flags the way they were flown.
  2. He's not going to recuse himself.
  3. There's nothing we can do about (2).

Keep your eye on the ball and move on.

@lauren I respectfully disagree. Saying nothing normalizes behavior that should not be normalized. I don’t care if it “wastes the news cycles”. Almost everything these days wastes time in the news cycles. And this is not a small thing. The Supreme Court is completelly compromised with Alito and Thomas. Let’s not forget that.

Donald Trump has been hit with a massive one-two punch in his bank fraud case.

He owes $372 million for lying—and he can't borrow money from any New York bank, frustrating his ability to appeal the judgment.

In this video, #VladVexler spends over half an hour talking about and around (but mostly around) the issue of whether "from the river to the sea" implies genocide or at least ethnic cleansing.

His conclusion is that it does sometimes but not other times and it depends who's saying it, sometimes, which isn't really a conclusion. He suggests that, due to this ambiguity, it's a poor choice, regardless.

zemsgram,
@zemsgram@mstdn.social avatar

@TruthSandwich @SparkleTea Hamas is a terrorist organization. There is no justification for what they have done. Questions: Is Israel killing civilians in Gaza? Is Israel justified in killing innocent civilians in Gaza? Are there innocent civilians in Gaza? Children? What is the end goal for Israel? Am I wrong or anti-Semite because I deplore the devastation of Gaza? There is no “so what”. These are serious questions.

In the J6 DOJ trial (the big one) yesterday was Trump's deadline for filing pretrial motions.

(See attached minute order)

No surprise, his lawyers filed a bunch of motions just before the deadline.

Here's the thing about defense motions in criminal proceedings: Defendants are given lots of leeway to file motions that don't have a chance. The lawyers run into trouble only if they lie or misrepresent facts.

This is because of how much is at stake in criminal cases.

Guess I have to repeat this:

When we get good news (legal, Israel/Hamas, whatever), can we take just 2 measly minutes to appreciate it before blasting it to smithereens and whining about how the good news is really bad news?

People are beginning to sound like the NYT "Blame Biden" headlines every time he has a win.

For your own mental health, accept the wins. Push harder for more, but FFS, good news is rare. Embrace it.

OR, just don't toot me with the whining. I'm trying to stay sane here.

Presumably there'd be Congressional interest in a private citizen monitoring an ally's military in real-time, chatting with the enemy about it, then thwarting the ally. But the GOP House will protect Musk, and the Senate will likely continue its proud tradition of doing nothing.

Elon Musk secretly ordered his engineers to turn off his company’s Starlink satellite communications network near the Crimean coast last year to disrupt a Ukrainian sneak attack on the Russian naval fleet, according to an excerpt adapted from Walter Isaacson’s new biography of the eccentric billionaire titled “Elon Musk.”

    zemsgram,

@maxkennerly because Hunter Biden profiting on his dad’s position threatens national security while Jared Kuschner and the trump kids are no threat even though Saudi Arabia paid Jared millions and Musk is given carte blanche because he’s a billionaire.

I am rarely disagreeable, but there are limits.

I was talking with my parent's neighbor, and he pointed across the street to a man doing Tai Chi on his back deck. He made fun of the man and said he should 'do that stuff' indoors.

I asked if the man was hurting him. Of course, he said he wasn't. I then asked what he would do if someone complained about HIS daily jogs around the neighborhood.

If what someone does doesn't hurt you, let them be who they are. I just don't get narrow-mindedness.
