I’m hearing murmurs of YouTube blocking browsers that support ad blockers.
You know where you don’t have to worry about such things? Host your videos on a #PeerTube instance and use #Owncast for your live video streaming needs.
@owncast I've been on Mastodon since late November last year, and am finally comfortable & confident enough to explore the rest of the #Fediverse. Are there any guides available on #Owncast & #PeerTube suitable for a complete rookie?
@owncast are any open #Peertube instances LGBTQ-friendly? My first search showed a strong homophobic/anti-queer bias, which dissuaded me from looking for any more videos or streaming/hosting information.
Chances are most of you know about some big names in #OpenSource and #Privacy, but there’s one FOSS champion you might not know: @Framasoft
They offer a bunch of services that are all open source, free to use, collect no data whatsoever, and that can help you replace some of big tech’s services. And a lot of them don’t even require an account!
So, let’s look at who they are, what they do, and the services you can use from them!
@thelinuxEXP
I've been looking for something loke #SepiaSearch for so long! One of the only downsides to #peertube is (was) only being able to search in-instance. No longer! @Framasoft
As a content creator, I’m all for getting more money, but forcing users to watch ads isn’t the way to do it… I think YouTube would lose a lot of viewers if they enforced this on everyone, and creators would suffer as a result.
Day 1
Where am I? Is this the Fediverse? What is the Mastodon? How do I Calckey? Am I Pixelfed?

What I've learned about #Fediverse (#Mastodon#Calckey etc) condensed to help others.
Day10
If there are subjects I don't want to deal with I can set filter words in my profile settings which will stop certain topics from showing up in my feeds.
#Fediverse & it's different platforms+software have masses of clever tools, & different ways to access. You communicate with people all over the Fediverse, across different platforms.
So much more to explore, new projects, new apps:
#PixelFed like Instagram but not constantly trying to sell you stuff #PeerTube like Youtube but not ads based #Friendica like Facebook but not harvesting your data or radicalising your relatives #Mastodon millions use it as Twitter without all the Nazis #Calckey a really smooth & fun new Twitter replacement with loads more features than Twitter
& many more to discover. They all communicate together, you can use any or all, keep your people, your following circles across all of them.
To those who have followed the Open Web Project up until now, I thank you for your patience. I've been working with the Social Coding Initiative on merging our efforts towards Organization. All I discussed in my LibrePlanet talk is what I am looking to address in this initiative that I'll be posting about next.
If you're interested in pure #PeerTube experience with multi-acckunt support and don't mind the lack of comment section, you can try #Thorium. It's available on F-Droid.
i know it's gauche to ask for boosts on the fediverse, and normally I never do. but every time I search for #contentcreator on my own instance I get NOTHING, and I don't want to have to make a half dozen accounts on other instances to find other creators either. if I could just establish a network of fellow #creators (preferably #videoCreators, but #artists, #writers, #photographers etc are fine also) here on my home account, that would be wonderful.
maybe I could even find some creators to say hello to at #anaheim#vidcon in three weeks 😁
@toplesstopics hello my name is Moshe and I am a cybersecurity and tech content creator. I am most popular on #Tiktok with 336K followers, but I also have a #Twitch where I do gaming on Linux as well as tech tinkering streams that are simulcast to my Tiktok. I also have a #Peertube and #Pixelfed I should really post more to as well. Finally I do have a #youtube which is set to have proper content launch soon, and of course a Wordpress blog. I have it all in my links #contentcreator
Enjoy!
At the moment, I am posting public policy and urbanism stuff on #Mastodon, cultural and spirituality stuff on #Calckey, photos on #Pixelfed, and videos on #PeerTube -- and then crossboosting them on platforms. Is that what others are doing, or am I overcomplicating the #Fediverse?
We have to think community by community, strategically, about how to facilitate a transition away from sole dependence on Twitter. Should have done it last year but better late than never. I don't think it's too late but it's not going to happen by itself.
I am (actually) trying to walk the talk, I made a #peertube instance so I can continue to whine about people publishing on #youtube, it's like harnessing my crankiness.
If Mastodon is Twitter, Friendica is Facebook, and Lemmy is Reddit, but they're all communicating together, is there any real need to make different accounts unless we want to try out different features?
@sharan The difference is whether you are a user or a creator.
With the services you choose, it doesn't matter where you are. The situation is different with #Pixelfed#Funkwhale#Peertube etc.
If you are a creator, accounts there make perfect sense. for pure consumption, an account with whatever is enough.
Why is there so much anti-trans/conspiracy theory shit on #PeerTube? I mean, I get that it's the #fediverse so people can say what they want, but damn... where's the fucking block button?
So apparently GitHub Copilot chat knows the #Tiktok API, so maybe I can tinker with a possible auto poster to #Peertube if I can figure that out. I’ll of course be testing on @DavBot where my Peertube is. I’ll see if I can make a test account and study Peertube if they have an api that will let me. I’ll start small as a basic raspberry pi function and then see about moving to an AWS lambda if possible
I deleted all my youtube subscriptions from #NewPipe and went peertube-only.
I'll still occasionally look up videos and channels in YT on NewPipe, but my subscriptions feed is 95% #PeerTube now.
Make heavy use of sepia search and you'll be able to find lots of good content.
Just be aware that people don't post to newpipe as often as the average youtuber.
Also, there's a lot of good stuff on #TilVids
