Good morning hey escapees wondering how a post gets seen here? Yup, it’s different it depends on people, boosts, not an algorithm. 👇

From a business standpoint, this was the kind of thing that should have started with, instead of the insanity of the original Twitter Blue rollout. But now I wonder if it's too little, too late...

This was where we shouted out abuses & injustices. This was where we got ourselves heard, & got the govt to take action. During the Bersih movement, tips were shared, live, on what to do when you get caught, tear gassed, need legal help.

So, no, Twitter isn't useless. It's powerful for nations where the media is not totally free.

johnquiggin,

@liztai was useful for us in Australia too. I defended it regularly against MSM. But, like any commercial media business, it can be bought by a bad actor with enough money and turned against us. That's happened and it's time to move.

IMHO, should nationalize and put under the auspices of VOA or The Emergency Broadcasting System. It’s too valuable a resource for the public good to let it be hijacked by a democracy-hating Oligarch.

Can you even imagine the head explosions?

This is a shameless plea to boost this appeal for more followers. I know I might not replicate the 115k follower count on my “permanently suspended” account where I’ve posted for 14 years. Engagement is already much better here and so far it’s devoid of trolls. Your feedback to my polls here clearly show a desire for me to actively post news and 95% say I shouldn’t take down my @elonjet tweets as demanded by the other platform for my account to be reinstated there.

Adding my essay to the ever-growing "Why I quit " pile on the Internet. 😆

We call it "Twitterjaya" in & users are mostly progressives, urbanites and middle to upper class. Most wouldn't bother leaving, but with the ban on other social media channels, I think may be forced to join soon.

Earlier today Elon Musk said that my ban was temporary, 45 min later he denied my appeal to reinstate my account and confirmed that I am permanently banned. The email I just received says the decision cannot be reversed.
I have never once violated Twitters rules or terms of service. I’ve never had a single tweet flagged, my account was permanently banned with no warning and with no reason, after I reached out to Musk for comment.

On Musk, and democracy, neofascism, and Thiel:

What’s happening with now is very similar to how Trump built the MAGA GOP: dominance.
Musk is forcing to scrape and beg. Reinstated accounts are tweeting happiness to be back.

That’s the “dominance politics” playbook. The authoritarian, playbook. The way to fight is to pull out.

I’ve seen many people say they aren’t giving up on without a fight, but a). there’s nothing to give up, he already has it, and b). I don’t think it qualifies as a fight if the other guy keeps compulsively shooting himself in the foot over and over again.
