Things you realise once you reach .

  • You can finish and become rich in . But as a Forever28, you can't duplicate your success.
  • You can win every single game of and , but not as a Forever28.
  • You play (the original) without cheating (especially the duplicate cheat). As a Forever28, you can't even imagine how you played Diablo without cheating.

Most important of all: you still don't like games. Games like / (text-based online ), , dungeon crawlers, and isometric games, are still your go to .

@jake4480 Yep! Something with the 90s and early 00s video games really attracts.

I guess the simplicity and lore? If compared to modern games, it's too much eyecandy and concentration on learning the game mechanics, than actually enjoying it. I'm not sure, it's so hard to nail what it was with classic games that modern games are missing.

Even in consoles, I'd rather play Family Computer games than modern console games. LOL. And yeah, emulators! Get a modern machine and play classic games! (I'm so guilty of that too.)

It is similar here in the . You don't say, “When I was your age…”, if you want to share information about your time, you say, “Back in my day…”

In English, it doesn't make any sense. However, the local language equivalent of those two phrases comes with it:

  1. Language nuances; and
  2. Cultural factors.

Why?

“When I was your age…” in our local languages:

  1. Language nuances = the delivery is different; the tone; the speech; and
  2. Cultural factors = often used to demean, look down upon, another person (the younger in this case). It implies that, “I am/We are better than you”.

However, “Back in my day…” in our local languages:

  1. Language nuances = the delivery, tone, speech, is different, it is friendlier and open for discussion/sharing; and
    2 Cultural factors = not used to look down on anyone.

In the English language, these two phrases are the same, neutral, and thus won't make sense. But not in many Asian languages and cultures.

In addition, while both Filipino and Korean cultures have a deeply embedded respect levels in languages and actions, there is no room for older people to abuse it. We won't show it to you, because again, deeply embedded respect culture. But you can guarantee we're talking behind your back, and in today's world, chatrooms.

Back in my day, in the 80s and 90s, we say, “talk to the hand” and the equivalent action is stretching our arms, showing our palms forward to your face.

Obviously, we don't do that to people older than us. We do it while we're talking about you with our friends.

Today, in the present, at least here in the Philippines, we say, “Whateva'”, with a hand gesture and facial expression. Of course, we do it behind your back, or in chatrooms.

If you're a foreigner learning an Asian language, well, like in any other country, you'll be given a free pass. But, you better learn fast, you never know when you'll be misunderstood (unless you really want to be rude).

(There are actually more nuances in Filipino languages than Korean, for this particular case. And there is a worse way, too!)

It's still a welcome, considering the already escalated situation, wherein, China is just waiting for the #Philippines, and its allies, to make a mistake. We definitely need every protection there is right now.

My question is, since I'm not knowledgeable with the Typhon system, would it have been better if they deployed it in a different region instead of near Taiwan? I mean, as far as protection it can give goes.

Then again, the US government's intent is always more than two, and one of it is to “protect” #Taiwan. It isn't so much for the Philippines only.

Huh, so what other have mentioned, South-East Asia now have a better ping to European gaming servers than US West Coast (or any US-based gaming servers).

This is interesting. I'm going to expand my test in the future. But for now, the results are the same with or without VPN. I guess ASEAN now have a direct connection to the EU IX and uses the latest technology?

I wonder where our connection passes through to get to the EU.

Here in the Philippines, our connection goes through:

  1. Taiwan or Hong Kong
  2. From there it travels the Pacific Ocean to US West Coast.
  3. From US West Coast, it travels to Central.
  4. From Central to East Coast.
  5. From East Coast to Europe.

If we now have a connection direct to EU IX, then it means we're no longer passing through the US?

Any IX experts out there?

It looks like by 2025, connection with the US West Coast is going to be far better than it already is. I guess, from a gamer perspective, we should stick to North American servers. LOL ^_^;; Maybe the EU connection is better right now because there were projects which were recently completed?? But once the other projects connecting us to US West Coast are online, our NA connection will still be better in the long run.

There appears to be much confusion about this, with most calling it a “rumour”.

A “rumour” is something that is being talked about in whisper, usually without any “notable” source. However, in this particular case, a lot of Philippine news media outlets reported this revelation from a former politician and businessman, Chavit Singson, who claims to be a co-producer.

Philippine news media are members of various legal journalism organisations. If you trust your own local media if they are members of a legal journalism organisation, then I think Philippine media should be accorded the same respect. No one is saying they have not, nor will not, make a mistake. But, at least, give them some credit, no matter what our personal feelings and thoughts about them in other matters (like in politics).

Anyway, instead of calling it a “rumour”, it is more fitting to call it “unconfirmed” or “leak”. I think the latter 99% fits. Why?

Chavit Singson talked to the media about it. He “revealed” it himself, and he claimed he is the co-producer. He also revealed that the writers of Vagabond Season 02 visited the Philippines in 2023, looking for filming locations.

Since he was the first to break this news, then it is a “leak” rather than a “rumour”. Regardless of my personal feelings and thoughts about the man, I doubt he'll risk his political and business reputation for a K-drama. I mean, if you are going to put your reputation on the line, would you do it for a TV show or for something bigger and more significant?

Also, think about it this way:

  • If Chavit Singson was lying about it, then he will be roasted alive by mass media. From notable media outfits to social media. We all know what happens if one lies to, and use, the media.
  • If he was not lying about it, but the project doesn't push through because of his early revelation (or “leak”), then the fans will roast him instead. Still, we cannot fault him for that other than “being too excited” about it. The ultimate decision lies with the production team, and the actors, producers can only do so much.

Him as a businessman, I think it was a calculated move to “leak” it at this time. They probably have reached a MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) already, thus, he is confident it will push through. Leaking it may increase support for it, especially in Korea, where the ultimate decision lies. Imagine if it doesn't push through, Chavit Singson can explain that the powers-that-be in Korea decided against it. So, yeah, strategic leak; or strategic early announcement.

Obviously, the production team cannot leak anything, and it is better for them to have a plausible deniability about any leaks or agreements. They want to film in the Philippines, they got support from Chavit Singson, now they just have to convince the powers-that-be in Korea. Hence, the “leak”, not a “rumour”. Get everyone to talk about it, and use it to convince the powers-that-be in Korea to green lit the project and to film in the Philippines.

There are very few choices of online translation services that offer translations from and into (sometimes listed as even though they are not exactly the same).

How few? and are the go to online translation services; and that's about it. Popular neural translation services like Naver Papago, DeepL, and Reverso, are yet to offer Tagalog and Filipino translations.

However, there is one that is actually doing it better than Bing and Google, that is Yandex Translation — https://translate.yandex.com.

  • Translating Tagalog into another language.

So far, my only gripe is that Yandex translates it into past tense. It appears that Yandex still doesn't understand the Tagalog tenses in this translation direction (it does understand tenses when translating into Tagalog).

If you don't understand Tagalog, you also will not notice the tense was changed because the translation into your own language is correct as far as past tense is concerned.

  • Translating another language into Tagalog.

This one is good. At least based on what I have tested, tenses were preserved. Depending on the source language, the choice of words might be weird, but it makes sense regardless, from a native Tagalog speaker (maybe not for someone learning Tagalog, or Filipino).

‘Neural noise’ could be a hidden advantage of the autistic mind

But some research, including our own study, has explored specific advantages in autism. Studies have shown that in some cognitive tasks, autistic people perform better than allistic people.

Autistic people face ignorance, prejudice and discrimination that can harm wellbeing. Poor mental and physical health, reduced social connections and increased “camouflaging” of autistic traits are some of the negative impacts that autistic people face.

So, research underlining and investigating the strengths inherent in autism can help reduce stigma, allow autistic people to be themselves and acknowledge autistic people do not require “fixing”.

The autistic brain is different. It comes with limitations, but it also has its strengths.

How do you define the term, “Openly Autistic”?

  • Is it an autistic person who rarely masks?
  • Or, an autistic who isn't afraid and/or shy to share that they are actually autistic?
  • Or, an autistic person who is active in the autism acceptance “movement” (if we can call it that)?
  • Or, perhaps, an autistic who were interviewed and disclosed they're autistic?

Maybe you have other considerations or criteria that defines “openly autistic” for you?

NOTE: Being openly autistic is a choice and is not for everyone. I think it is safe to say that we all face discrimination, stereotyping, and prejudice for being actually autistics, thus, most choose not to be open about it.

However, recently, there has been a slow growth in numbers of openly autistics, and like with most things in life, we have different criteria, definitions, and cultural considerations.

Thus, I am curious what you think, personally or maybe your immediate environment or organisation, is an openly autistic person. Or, when do you consider one as openly autistic.

Again, this is not about if an autistic person should be openly autistic or not. ^_^

Ahh! Good point! It doesn't have to do with unmasking; it's more about being fine and able to share it; yet still continue with our usual masking.

Hmm… like in a work environment, a supervisor, and manager may be able to help and assist us, but it requires being open to them. While for the rest of the company, we continue to mask.

True. It doesn't have to be everyone at work.

I think that was the mistake I did in one of my previous work. I opened up during the orientiation of the team. Months later, had a discussion about autism with a team member because his eldest brother is autistic too, and he shared to me how he thinks autism is just an excuse and a figment of our imagination. Which of course I got insulted as well.

You are right, we still need to mask, and we don't need to tell everyone.

It's easier to use Hangeul and Kana to write pronunciations of Filipino words, than to use Filipino diacritical marks.

  1. Last we were taught about Filipino diacritical marks was in Grade 4 or 5 (early 90s). I don't know why, but after that diacritical marks were totally forgotten.

  2. Tracking it down, IIRC, it was late 90s / early 00s when it was officially removed by the KWF.

  3. Sometime 2010, the KWF brought diacritical marks back, though limited.

  4. In 2014 (or was it 2016?) the KWF introduced a new diacritical mark, the Filipino schwa. It didn't exist before. There are only like 4 Philippine languages with a schwa vowel. They added it in Filipino so words from those Philippine languages can be integrated into the Filipino language.

Here's my problem, no matter how many times I read the KWF document on Filipino diacritical marks, I can't get my head around it. 🤪 I understood it differently, or I remembered them incorrectly. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Or! I've been pronouncing a lot of words wrongly! 🤦🏽‍♂️

However, when I use Hangeul and Kana, I don't have to worry about diacritical marks. Both scripts have stable pronunciations, not like Latin characters where we have to use diacritical marks.

The only catch, the reader should be able to read Hangeul or Kana scripts, which most don't. 🤔 So, back to trying to get a grasp of Filipino diacritical marks. 🤯

Am I right that the Filipino diacritical marks represent the sound?

Examples:

  • e = neutral = abrupt soft stop?
  • è = high to low = abrupt hard stop? (paiwa?)
  • é = low to high = malumay? (malumanay?)
  • ê = low to high to low = ??
  • ë = the new Filipino schwa (no idea, since I don't speak the few Philippine languages where a Filipino schwa is needed).

Any experts out there?

(In the revived diacritical marks, we no longer use ē. IIRC, it used to represent a long vowel sound.)
