There are very few choices of online translation services that offer translations from and into #Tagalog (sometimes listed as #Filipino even though they are not exactly the same).
How few? #Bing and #Google are the go to online translation services; and that's about it. Popular neural translation services like Naver Papago, DeepL, and Reverso, are yet to offer Tagalog and Filipino translations.
However, there is one that is actually doing it better than Bing and Google, that is Yandex Translation — https://translate.yandex.com.
Translating Tagalog into another language.
So far, my only gripe is that Yandex translates it into past tense. It appears that Yandex still doesn't understand the Tagalog tenses in this translation direction (it does understand tenses when translating into Tagalog).
If you don't understand Tagalog, you also will not notice the tense was changed because the translation into your own language is correct as far as past tense is concerned.
Translating another language into Tagalog.
This one is good. At least based on what I have tested, tenses were preserved. Depending on the source language, the choice of words might be weird, but it makes sense regardless, from a native Tagalog speaker (maybe not for someone learning Tagalog, or Filipino).

I looked up the German word gegenwart which GT automatically translated to Dutch* as cadeau (present, in the sense of gift), but actually it means aanwezig, present (in the sense of time), which #DeepL correctly recognised first time.
Both get it right going directly to English rather than Dutch.
So is #GoogleTranslate automatically translating to English + then to 3rd language for these weird errors?
Another thing I like about #Misskey's custom emoji reactions is that I can get the gist of what a post written in a language I do not understand is saying via the reactions being given by the cool people of misskey.io. So even if #DeepL is not giving me translations that don't make sense, I can tell for example that @syuilo is hungry from the numerous pizza emojis being given :blobcatnompizza: and give a ":yuyuko_corndog:" :koakuma_giggle:

Ich möchte hier kurz warnen: LASST ES!
Ich habe echt nur Scherereien mit dem Service. So sehr, dass ich den Service mittlerweile für sehr dubios halte. Das ist tatsächlich nicht normal und sieht mir mittlerweile danach aus, als ob da jemand einfach billig Daten abgreifen will.
Ich hatte mir dort einen Account angelegt, um deren Translation API auszuprobieren. Sie bieten einen kostenlosen Zugriff an, der dann in der Zahl der Abfragen beschränkt ist.
Dafür muss man dann eine Kreditkarte eingeben. Sie geben den kostenlosen Zugriff nicht ohne KK frei. Ich habe in den sauren Apfel gebissen und das getan.
Nachdem man dann auch noch Adressdaten usw eingegeben hat, darf man endlich den Button "Anmelden für die kostenlose API" betätigen.
Der führt bei mir auf eine kryptische, interne Fehlermeldung mit dem Hinweis, sich deshalb bei Support zu melden, wenn das Problem anhält. Das Problem hält über Tage an, deshalb suche ich den Support.
Es gibt keinen ersichtlichen Link "Support", nur "Hifecenter" und "Kontakt". "Hiflecenter" ist eine FAQ, "Kontakt" ist eher für Anfragen vor Registrierung. Aber mit etwas Rumklicken in den Tiefen der Webseite kommt man auf eine andere Art Kontakt Formular. Da muss man ein Thema auswählen, was annähernd passen könnte, dann darf man schreiben.

Das habe ich jetzt zweimal über ein paar Tage gemacht und bekam nie eine Antwort.
Dann wollte ich den Account löschen. Dafür gibt es ja bei normalen Services irgendwo einen Button bei den Konto Einstellungen. Nicht so bei deepl.com! 😮 Nicht mal deren FAQ sagt irgendwas dazu, wie man denn bei ihnen eigentlich seinen Account löschen kann.
Auf einer anderen Seite, die sich mit Accountslöschungen im Allgemeinen beschäftigt, finde ich auch Infos zu deepl. Man muss eine Mail an den Support schreiben (die Adresse ist dort notiert) mit genutzter Adresse, Name und Grund, warum man seinen Account löschen will..
Mache ich, schicke ich mit der E-Mail ab, unter der ich registriert habe und bekomme als Antwort: "Mailserver hat Nachricht abgewiesen, weil es keinen MX Eintrag für die Domain der FROM Adresse gibt."
Das ist natürlich Quatsch, den gibt es. 🤬
Dann die gleiche Mail von meinem Google Account abgeschickt. Das wird angenommen und so haben sie noch einen weiteren Datensatz zu mir.. 🙄
Ich hoffe, das beendet endlich das Trauerspiel mit diesem "Service"..
@itanglese come si rende in italiano "vendor lock-in": il meno peggio proposto da #deepl è "vincolo del fornitore" ma non mi suona bene.

Most of my "Translated by DeepL" results try the wrong source language and fail.
My Ice Cubes GitHub says, "If your text is translated via DeepL and you haven't manually forced that in the settings by pasting your API key this is the translation service your mastodon instance provides. We send a request to your instance by default and can't select the translation service in that case."
Whenever I check, the poster has configured the post language correctly, and DeepL ignores it and guesses wrong.
But Neuromatch knows the configured language... Could you send that to DeepL along with the request?
Maybe in the web app you could even let us manually correct the source language if the poster is using an alternate from what they configured?
