I wanted to share something happy today and this seems to fit the bill.
All dogs are special to their owners who love them, who have seen into their hearts. So when I look at your lovely dog in a photograph I only see a small part of this special animal. It's a bit like an iceberg. So much is hidden beneath the surface.
This is my dog, Joni. When I look at her I see the heart shining through in her eyes. I see a smile.
Happy Monday all. #EllieKPosts#borderCollie#dog#Mondog#DogsOfMastodon
@EllieK they are. We have a 3 year old. He so much fun. We recently lots our 13 year old and miss him dearly. New one on the way now, should have her mid September.
@nicolaisabelle@mackayim2022@sarahmare There may be several barriers, but hygiene is not one of them. We have dogs in our hospital regularly including in the intensive care unit. Makes the patients’ (and my) day.
I saw this lovely #dog yesterday in the metro. He was very friendly and he wanted me to touch him and he licked my hands. He had only one eye. #dogsofmastodon#suomimastodon#finland
@bosquebill He doesn't like the ear holes. He does tend to like hats (and loves sweaters -- he likes to be very warm, for some reason). He actually will bring them over to me and ask for me to put him in them 🤷
We almost lost Koda last week due to acute pancreatitis.
He's back home since Sunday and as active as always!
But he's taking a lot of medications, and he has to soon remove his spleen (w/ a golf ball sized tumour), and with his age the surgery is very risky, but needed 😢.
He's turning 15 this September.
I never posted this publically: I take a photo per day with Koda. I have more than 5000 daily Koda photos :D
@alfredbaudisch I'm not going to lie - yes they are, and they all are with the right families (which was also hard work - we had one family who visited 3 times - the third time they showed themselves for who they really were and we told them they couldn't have one) - they also all came out around 350g each - a very consistent little of 6 - couldn't have asked for a better first time I think. Was hard work though.
Domestic bliss at #LikaLodge : It’s #raining. I made a bed for the #Dog. #Bike is here too, covered a bit. #Fireplace & #tea. This morning I had breakfast at sunrise, under #Lipa / #Linden . Earlier I made a room-divider from a #patchwork curtain I got at #DeGrowth conference last year. Memories & fantasies… plus enjoying the moment!
Good morning! It’s full of unusual occurrences! It’s Ortodox Christian #Easter , and although I am not religious, I like the tradition of coloring eggs! marked with leaves & flowers & cooked in henna, so now I have tie-dyed socks ;) Plus the eggs were approved of by The Dog! … now I’ll share them with SIX MORE PEOPLE - who are not family! - friends of Nina &Vedran ! We are truly #celebrating abundance of nature & love & life, while surrounded by birds & #mountains & trees & sunshine! #LikaLodge
new foster #dog is so nervous. we're his fifth foster home. i really don't want to let him down. rosie (resident staffy) is so excited - too excited for jacno. :( #adoptDontShop#frenchBulldog#foster#dog#dogs
As an #author I often assume knowledge that I should ask about. So, here's the ask: As an average person, if you saw a woman in an urban situation with a #wolf (it is a wolf but nobody is saying it is a wolf), would you assume it was a #dog?
Please boost for maximum sample size.
Feel free to comment if you have experience with telling the difference or studying #wolves.
@MJones
Wolves accompanying people; not saying pets, but that's implied. I think I've read articles mostly from activists, but some authorities. Rarely works, they state. Dangerous, and I'd definitely worry, but I'm not entirely sure who to believe. My opinion is it isn't ethical, anyway. Mine is a fantasy novella in any case, so not weighing in, just storytelling. Still... wondering if the owner of the therapy dog might be pulling your leg about that "ALL."
@sfwrtr Weighing in a 4th option; I would look at the features and make an educated guess because not all friend shaped creatures are domesticated. Some are wild, but decide they find a single human's company to be a jolly experience.
I've seen wolves a lot in nature shows and books. Enough to guess within reason but knowing requires asking the person who said canine was accompanying. I am the type to really think about it first before deciding.
I think I must be trying to make myself feel better about approaching winter. Joni loves walks on the beach in the winter and I admit that I do as well, when I can push myself to go there. She looks a bit miserable here, though, probably because it was over and we were on the way home.
Have as good a Monday as you can make it, friends.
When my then 7-year-old twin nieces wanted Violet to do the trick, their arms were too short -- but they could make a big enough hoop by working together.
It's funny when she's first learning a trick and has no idea what I want her to do. Frequent guesses include "jump at my face" or "stand absolutely still".
This afternoon, my poor lil gal was traumatized via an aggressive stray #dog. Fortunately, my umbrella saved the day! She was still shaking when we got home—so gave her two trazodone, tucked her in with her furbaby, and put on her fave YouTube nighty-night video. [sounds of cat purring next to a cozy, crackling 🔥] #dogs#dogsofmastodon#fediverse
Our little boy Shortee is in hospital. i would appreciate anyone who is a thinker, feeler or pray-er to send warm wishes + thoughts of noodles, various #dog snacks and proper kidney and pancreas function in his direction. Thank you so much. #love#dachshund#beagle
I have said with pride that I can’t be offended, that I’m immune to that.
I’m still not offended by the existence of “dog bakeries” — but it gets close to that.
I don’t blame specifically the shop owners (who detected a market need) or the clients (who are vulnerable to whims, curiosity and overindulgence, like anyone who cares for another creature). I blame us all, collectively, for creating a society and a moral code that enables this and doesn’t give a second thought to the logic (or lack thereof) behind this.
Our priorities are so skewed. Our allocation of resources, empathy and attention is zero-sum. We neglect unthinkable quantities of suffering afflicting billions of sentient beings every day but pay for a spoiled caniche to eat a cute cupcake.
Of course we need distractions. There are many distractions that are gratis, productive, generous, creative — or at least neutral. And there are distractions were we can justify real improvement in well-being for us or for others.
Choosing to spend your time visiting a “dog bakery” and to pay for a fake carrot cake to actually malnourish and spoil a poodle which couldn’t care less about the texture of the thing or the colours of its toppings (or about how well it shows on Instagram, or about the childish impulses of its owner) ticks none of the boxes above, and is so patiently decadent, pointless and wasteful that I wouldn’t put it in the same box as “doing the crossword”, “watching a TV programme” or “juggling”.
